Canada full-back Matt Evans has joined the Dragons on a one-year contract.

The 22-year-old, who can also play fly-half, will come to Wales after playing for Canada in the Churchill Cup.

"Matt is an exciting young player and he will be a valued member of our squad," said Dragons manager Robert Beale of the 6ft 1in, 13st 7lb back.

Evans, who has a Welsh mother and spent his childhood in Narberth, came off the bench for Canada in their 23-32 defeat to Wales in Toronto in May 2009.

That's a decent recruitment to replace Martin Thomas for the strat of the season. This is good news as it allowes Tovey to develop in the 10 role.

I've had a look, and he seems like a good signing. He scored last weekend in the Churchill Cup, and, as said, it's good as Tovey can stay at 10 as well. Looks like that's the end of the Stodart speculation.

strikes me as a good replacement for Thomas, an attacking-minded fullback.
