Dubai Sevens, 2-3 December 2011, Sevens World Series

Well for those who missed them, we have had shocks all round in the Cup tier on day two.

England were 10-7 victors over New Zealand
France put in an immaculate display to beat South Africa 19-5
Argentina had a gutsy 7-5 win over Wales
Whilst Fiji were the only favourites to perform, with yet another crushing win, 34-7 over Australia.

Disappointing tournament for Samoa, having lost to Canada (whom went on to lose their Shield semi against the USA) in the Shield quarters, they struggled to put away Zimbabwe to reach the final, 21-12

Just turned it on now - always forget when the 7s is on and then am pleasantly surprised that there's rugby on in the morning

That guy Norton is some player for England.
He's got some real pace - I remember yesterday someone got a break away try vs England, he was cm away from closing them down despite them getting a 10-20m headstart on him

another surprise is the womens sevens has actually been pretty good to watch too, esp the canadian team :D. I think Fiji being consistently good counts as a shock

nz been awful, they've been looking really unconfident even on day 1 against South Africa.

NZ 7's team have just been too mechanic. They are just going through the motions. There is just no magic in the team atm.

Ignore this post, hadn't realised they were replaying one of the earlier matches and got confused

Agree that the womens 7s has been a good watch - Canada playing well

Who here almost jizzed at Fiji's first try against Aus? Magic stuff.

Hopefully Scotland can go one better this week and win the Shield, I feel a lot more confident facing the US than Canada at this stage, even if the US did beat Canada with some comfort in the latter stages.

Although they did well against New Zealand yesterday (especially now that we see that it was a further case of NZ being poor), but South Africa have also struggled and are missing their playmakers and gasmen. The less said about Samoa the better.

Argentina and France greatly improved this season, the wee man for France has had a storming start to the season. England being normal England, so in amongst all the muck of the bigger teams they can do very well.

This has been a great game for England - Some of the track back tackling has been superb, Nortons at the death especially

Great game by the English, stood up and bettered the Fijians in every department, worthy of being in the final.

Great to see France in the final as well, strang that arguably the weakest pool (in terms of last week) has the two teams competing in the Cup final.

Come on Scotland, let's win some silverware.
