My cat does this too. If you try to play hide and seek with it, it will make this type of behaviour. It's hunting instinct kicks in. You can see that kitty was really scared and it was trying to defend itself by 'attacking'.

Also another one to try is 'play dead'. I pretend to play dead suddenly after making a fuss of my cat, laying motionless and the cat will come to me and paw me, or even gently bite me to get a reaction.
