All the Pollock hate on here just sounds a bit bitter in my opinion. He is a 20 year old lad who has already achieved more than all us combined in this forum. His rise has been great to watch, good luck too him. 🤙
Hey!! He's won nowt yet..I've won the Northumberland cup! He's got a lot to prove! 🤔😉

Coles looked class in the big game

Also thought Haffar looked really good off the bench. Hopefully he kicks on at Tigers could do with some more young LH's coming up so AOF can be focused at TH
Think you’ve got a great player in Haffar but only time will tell if he pushes on more than Manny, let’s hope he does but what really annoys me is both of these loose heads still look light to me compared to other nations.

What would people's thoughts be on Miles Reid potentially touring over Kenningham or Pepper? He's been really solid for Bath for a long time now and it seems like he's preferred to Barbeary at 8 right now.

Kenningham and Pepper are good but realistically they're competing for a 6th/7th choice openside berth after the Currys, Earl, Pollock and Underhill. Whereas IMO it would only take a couple of solid international performances for Reid to push his way into the 3rd choice 8 slot behind Earl and Willis.

I rate Reid but not over Pepper or Kenningham. Shame for him, but he’s another who is unfortunate to be around in an era where there are lots of very good players competing for a handful of spots.

In other eras, Reid, Evans etc. would have been right in the mix.

Yeah I like Reid a lot, just feel he doesn't have the USP to set him apart over others

Or maybe his versatility is his USP? We've got so many 7s now maybe having a utility backrower in the squad is the next logical move

Because Coetzee is injured, and in Bath's game plan, it's the 8 off the bench who's there to make hay; whilst the starter grinds things down.
Is it that, or is it that Barbeary just doesn’t really have the engine to be effective over 50 mins? Because that’s gotta be a major factor to count against him in international selection.

Kinda agree, but then I’d also say that a guy like Ben Curry doesn’t really have that much of a USP either (I know he makes a lot of dominant hits) but he’s consistently a top performer because he’s 7/10 at everything rather than 10/10 at some things and 4/10 at others. Reid strikes me as another guy like that.

Reid is a fine player but for me he just doesn't scream International.
Loads of clubs have them at Tigers I feel that Wells in his prime could've maybe had some more caps but really he isn't a International level.

IMO Kenningham and Pepper have that higher potential ceiling. I feel Reid is similar bracket to Bayliss, hits that could be a bench player but rarely ever going to start v top line opposition

No. It's what I said.
Barbary does have the engine to be effective over and beyond 50 minutes.
What counts against Barbeary was not being as good as Willis or Earl, and being in poor form until the 6N had already started.

I like what I see what Reid but I’ll be honest it’s really hard to rate the amount of back rowers we have from clubs I don’t watch every week.

But what I can say is I watch at least 2 matches a week on tnt and in every game there is at least one top notch English back row. We seem to be so lucky to have this crop of players but and it’s a bit but, without the data it’s hard to compare someone like Reid with other players. How does he compare week in week out with others like evens, Kenningham, Pearson etc.

I’d also add, a 8/10 player who makes very few mistakes and it consistent is a massive asset. I mean Burry looks like that and he’s a top notch international.

Honestly Kenningham’s stats are pretty crazy in the league I feel

For me the big question who are the main back rowers that are going to be in the squad a while
T.Curry, Pollock, CCS, Earl, Willis are imo nailed down for a while

So it’s kind of like what are we missing most I depth or do we have a hole and who can replace it

Mentioned it in the challenge cup thread but Underhill banned for four weeks - meaning he'll miss one or two of the summer games (depending on if Bath make the final...so one!)

Would imagine he won't make the squad in that case considering it's only a three game tour and the third game is vs USA
