England v Argentina

felipe bringing back his energy as a player, wish he was as good a coach as he's at shithousery, we'd be world champs

congrats england

i'm happy about the game tho

Really? I assumed you'd be disappointed how poor Argentina were in the first half. They did well to catch up and come close to a win, but today was a missed opportunity for Argentina.

Here's the clip

What's he supposed to do? Not follow through after initial contact. I understand itá bit of a tight play in a fast paced game and that the post game reaction is arguably excessive. But let's not pretend there was nothing he could have done to prevent that. I don't believe for a second that he didn't know exactly what he was doing. I don't mean injuring Mallia, but knowingly arriving late and still choosing to go through with it.

Personally thought the call was correct. Penalty and nothing more. If he was a second earlier it was a perfect tackle and a great hit, and I do think when seeing at normal speed he was close enough that there was limited actions he could do to mitigate making contact. In fact if he tried to deviate it could’ve been worse (I.e. a late no arms shoulder charge or no arms tackle- I don’t think he was going to be able to sway out of making contact).

The injury is just a really unfortunate rugby incident. It’s the reverberation that leg had off the ground that caused the damage, not Curry collapsing onto it or anything like that.

I've been argentinean for a while now, this was like watching the Jaguares 17-18th or so

the two tries were soft, tackling was poor and generally England weren't really trying.. Argentina should feel remorse about the first half, but they need to grow from the second half, not focus on the first sp much

we can talk about how this second year in contepomi's reign feels somewhat like a regression, and yet the dynamic seems more fitting for the players, since it allows them to peform better over the whole 80 minutes

the point is that now we have more centers, more props and still preserve the quality of our back line, future looks good.

I wish we could leave Felipe's least desirable traits outside

Bit of afters in the tunnel and Curry being branded a bully. Curry has always come across as pretty humble and not one of those nasty types.

Yeah its boring.....and all the bell *** south africans jumping on the bandwagon.

Curry isnt a thug...and god knows how many of those the Argentians and Boks have had though!

And if i read "white kant" one more time.

HOWEVER

England must be doing something right if fans of other teams are starting to get mouthy again!

Genuinely surprised it wasn't Pollock, he's going to be a wind up **** for the ages

0-3 vs England this year, twice at home vs a side missing it's Lions and the third vs a side with quite a few mid-series injuries
Not surprised Contepomi is acting like a little baby, he must be very embarrassed

Scrappy game, pretty unconvincing and one that could have been lost. Still a win, but a bit of a reality check. Ojomoh surely must get a run now. Is Spencer really the back up to Michell? If that’s how SB sees it he must persist, but they are so different.

As for the Curry tackle. At the end of the day he hit a guy quite hard who was off balance and not in possession of the ball and was rightly penalised. If there hadn't been the injury no-one would have thought anything more of it. But there was and while not an hanging offence, you can understand why the Argentinians are upset.

The issue seems to be that it's become convention that it's OK to hit a kicker slightly late. Precisely how late is acceptable? And in committing to the tackle would Curry have had a reasonable idea of whether he’d have been there in time to make a legit tackle? From one angle it looks like he almost hesitated a bit and didn’t launch at 100% perhaps realising he’d got it wrong.

I agree but it’s not nice to imply that Curry did this deliberately and then acted like a bully when confronted about it after the game. Pretty poor from Contempomi but they’re a passionate bunch aren’t they.

Well that was an interesting experience. My takeaways:

Ojomoh did more in one game than Dingwall did in 3. Pairing him with OL has to be on the agenda going forwards although I fear SBs “safety first” approach could see this never coming to pass.

Elliot Daly is too far past his prime. Yes he’s a great rugby talent but he looked ponderous compared to those around him. When you have Arundell, Murely, Rdwan choose from you should not be selected Daly on the wing.

You can’t defend your way to victory. Only when England changed gear did we start to apply real pressure, and by then it was almost too late. SB needs to start trusting these lads to attack and play with ball in hand. This skin of the teeth escape should be taken as a warning. Try that kind of nonsense against better sides and we will be in serious trouble.

Finally IFW is the real deal and we need to find more ways to get him into the game. Get him training with Ashton. If he can learn the kind of running support lines Ashton used to run he could be lethal.

But when all is said and done islets 4 from 4 and 11 on the trot. England are now ranked 3rd in the world (but until we’ve beaten France and Ireland again it feels a little tenuous) so much to celebrate.

Yep, there are ways and ways. But feelings often run high after games and unless someone has walloped someone then I can’t really get too excited.

But equally ‘we’ (whoever that is) now demand instant reactions and cameras everywhere so we shouldn’t react with faux outrage when someone occasionally goes off at the deep end in a way they wouldn’t if they’d had a chance to calm down.

Has anyone ever told you you are annoyingly reasonable?

As for Curry telling Contepomi to **** off - that sounds very much like one side of a story. People just don't tell someone else to **** off for no reason. I've no idea whether there was enough cause to justify the reaction.
"I was standing there. He was coming in to say hi to one of our coaches, but we said no because we were upset. I said: ‘Man, you broke his knee,’ and he said: ‘**** off,’ and pushed me like that."

So... angry man blocks him and accused him of thuggery.
Paints himself as the victim when told to **** off. I hope he's embarrassed by his behaviour this morning - definitely sounds like he owe TC a public apology.

"Get your first hit in early... even if it's late"

That was then. But we’re now in a more safety conscious era where other aspects of the game are micro analysed to milliseconds. A kicker with one or no legs on the ground and following the flight of the ball is vulnerable at the best of times. And if they’re being hunted by someone like Curry that’s 17 and a bit stone moving at considerable speed.

Wouldn’t surprise me if this isn’t something that gets looked at more closely in time.
