New Zealand Beats England to Win Third Women's Rugby World Cup

By Dan Baynes

Sept. 17 (Bloomberg) -- New Zealand beat England 25-17 in the final of the 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup in Canada to win its third straight ***le.

The Black Ferns outscored England by four tries to two at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, extending their domination of the tournament since the International Rugby Board decided to sanction the event in 1998.

England got within three points with three minutes remaining with a converted try by substitute Helen Clayton before New Zealand full-back Amiria Marsh sealed the victory in the final minute with her sixth try of the tournament.

Monalisa Codling, Stephanie Mortimer and Victoria Heighway also touched down for New Zealand, while scrum-half Emma Jenson kicked a penalty and a conversion. England's other try came from a penalty try.

New Zealand's win stopped England becoming the first nation to hold both the men's and women's World Cups at the same time. The sixth men's Rugby World Cup takes place next year in France.[/b]

Ah thank you, NZ's 3rd Women's world cup

Fine, entertaining game. Well played, although I don't say the skill was as high, but the entertainment value put 90% of male games to shame.

well done to the woman in getting the 3peat. anna richards legend at 42 and still giving her all for the team.

It was great to see the girls win again. I just hope we see the guys bring home the cup from France!
