Beating the All Blacks or even Wallabies has been dependant in general on them having off-days rather than the Boks having good days in the last 8 years.

If they front up, which they usually do, there is nowt to fall back on. See the same for losses against Ireland/ Scotland.

I'm still not convinced it's a stylistic problem vs just poor execution.

it was more poor execution than anything else. But let's be honest, Pienaar gave the backs crappy ball and Lambie was a bit offish. his tactical kicking was poor, kicking for line-outs was nearly every time way short than what he expect from him. decision making was also a bit meh...
