Hi guys i need some help with one thing what stay giving me some problems. When I begin to play i attempt to tacke ever and when that huerts i continuing trying. Have passed some time and I have hurt some more and I become a player full of fear! In the games when one comes I don't attempt to give a front tackle into the rucks and formations i have some fear. Do you anyone know how to make this go away to me can play right again?

Thanks.

yeah I get that now and then, but not so much as when I first started. If you work on your tackling technique it migght help, as in making sure you're heads in teh right place, so you don't a) get kneed in the face or B) have 15 stone of a fat props belly crushing your neck. I mean, I've got to teh point where I don't mind tackling big blokes, because it's easier to grab they're legs and bring them down that the fast blokes who dodge you all the time...

Mate you just got to train your mind to tell itself your only going to get injured if you think about it.

Make sure you practice alot and concentrate on getting it done properly. Train with standing and moving targets.

Just make sure you tell yourslef you are going to nail the next tackler and dont think about the pain if you get in wrong because thats when people start having the fear!

it goes with time

i am a 9 and i know all about being the smallest guy on the field at most times (im only 5 foot 7 160lbs!) but really the more you play and play the less you think about it, and really once it goes away the pain you get from tackling a bigger guy actually feels pretty good especially when you drive them into the ground!

yeah Im a small forward I'm 5 ft 8 and weigh 90+ KGs I play No.8 and Hooker. I still get a bit nervous before a game but once I play it goes away. Like DC said your fear will go away eventually.

Receiving a kick off when a game is starting is the worst for me. The defence always seems to hit you the hardest then. And that feeling when the ball is coming your way, a mixture of just about every emotion. But after the 1st few rucks the adrenaline kicks in and I just get on with business as usual, and actually go looking for work.
I agree, playing more is really the only to get over any fear.

there are 2 options, the first is to hang up the boots

the other option is to play more as mentioned previously, if it puts your mind at rest, buy some sort of padded/protective vest. and once you get into the game and start having a positive impact, you'll be thinking more about the game and less about being tackled.

i started wearing a helmet again this year at cricket, after a long time without wearing a helmet. i was facing some quicker bowling and started thinking about getting hit in the head, i then couldn't concentrate and went out. to be honest, the helmet probably wont make a difference, but it puts my mind at rest, and i've started concentrating on the game again and my batting is improving.

The best way to do this is train your way out of the fear.

If you tackle as much as possible on the training ground then the process will become second nature to you and you'll overcome the fear, much in the same way soldiers train to overcome the fear in life and death situations

i'm always the smallest guy on the pitch. But i play scrum half so i'm protected by all the forwards!

Im usually not one of the strongest on the pitch but i like to use the fear to get me going. Takes a few tackles to get going, but usually after i am tackled once i am up for bringing anyone down and doing myself justice.

Im 16 and i play for a youth team i am allways the smallest player on the feild (5ft 4", 124 pounds). the first tackle of the game is my worst as i am not very strong and i allways have the fear in my head but as soon as i hit the first tackle all my fear drains away and i just dont give a monkeys

all you have to do is just tell yourself that i will tackle this player and you should be ok

Try wearing more gear like scrum cap and shoulder pads thet can make you feel way more confedent and safe.

Shoulder Pads helped me when i was about 11 and now im ok so try them

I had the same in my first season, but i started training on my tackling technique and it really works. Try to focus just on the waist of your opponent, the body goes where the waist is so that will make sure you always hit the right spot with the least of pain. It worked so well i got switched to full back where you have to make a lot of high pressure, high speed and big guy tackles. If the guy is really big, try to grab his waist and drop to the knees, you will always get him down that way, and if not initially you at least slowed him down. On the moment of impact, try to fall backwards while grabbing his waist/legs so you drag him to the ground, using his own speed.
This is a good way of high speed, low pain tackling.
And make sure your first hits are big, so you start feeling strong, and then you will tackle everyone on your way, believe me.
good luck

The reason I quit playing, I was out of the game for 14 months with a knee injury and when I did come back there was the nagging thought that I'd get crocked again.

Dont worry about it your always going to get hurt playing rugby but in this instance youve option of hurting the other guy too ...be brave and go for it hell for leather mate ive never been a big guy im only 5.10 or 5 .11 but tackling is all about how much you want to put that guy on the ground and how far you are willing to go to do it...

as regards technique go low into the hit when he comes into range drive of with your legs but keep your footing now once you make contact with the guys gut or ribs pull one of his legs back or if your strong enough pick him up and then start driving the legs and moving them backwards you do this to a guy its terribly demoralising for the opposition forwards to see their man going backwrards

and hell yeah its gonna hurt yo doing this but not half as much as the poor unfortnate your upending ..good luck
