The NZ Radiosport website reports that former NZRU president and selector, Lane Penn has passed away at age 74.

I remember when he was coaching Wairarapa Bush ... they were quite a force in the NPC during his and Brian Lochore's time coaching them.

My condolences to his family

Former NZRU President and All Blacks selector Lane Penn has died aged 74.
Lane Penn was a stalwart of rugby for Wairarapa Bush, taking over as coach from Sir Brian Lochore in 1983.
Penn served as All Blacks assistant coach under Alex Wylie, going on to become an All Blacks selector from 1988 to 1991 and became President of the NZRU, now known as NZR, in 2001.
As a player, he made the rare step of playing provincial rugby while still at school, eventually turning out more than 50 times for Taranaki.
His funeral will be held on Friday in Masterton.
