Whats happened to this guy and his any way still in competition for an Ireland place??

He's been in the Irish team for the 6-Nations so far, but has been dropped from the starting line-up (and the bench) for the game against Scotland this weekend in favour of Tommy Bowe.

Vincent Clerc scored hat trick in the first half on Murphy's wing last weekend, so I suppose that raised doubts and with Bowe in good form I guess they thought it was time to give the younger fellow a go.

Doubts have been there longer than that, his record against the French is proof enough, not just this year but 06 and 07 as well.

While Murphy has been poor in his last couple of outings against France, he also put in an outstanding performance when Ireland beat them in 2003 at Lansdowne. Unfortunately since his awful leg break later that year, he hasn't reached those heights with Ireland again. He still has a chance to get back in the Ireland team but it'll be at full back rather than being shunted onto the wing.

He was injured playing for Leicester at the weekend so Niall O'Connor was called into the squad and Bowe took his place on the wing.
