Earlier today, the Samoan National team held a training at our school in preparation for the game against NZ Maori on Sat.

We didn't get to do much, but were used to run against the backs as a defensive line (no tackling, we'd get smoked anyway) Just thought id post this :D

They have computers in Samoa...?

Man, I really should learn more about the PIs and India...

Samoan definition of a rugby pass:

The act of panic throwing the ball away from you after you have tried 3 different sidesteps to pass a defender and you have actually gone 10m backwards.

Samoan definition of catching the ball from a series of 3+ passes:

Unknown. It has never happened.

I disagree.....Samoa managed to get 5 passes out in 1965 after the ref missed a knock on on the second pass and then ruled the fourth pass as ok due to the hurricane wind blowing the ball back when it was in fact forward. Finally the prop ripping the ball off his winger can be classified as the fifth pass.

Niko Palamo's Samoa training session 20th June 2008:

6am: Wake up at Aggey Grey's in Apia.
7am: Wake up again, choose lavalava to wear to breakfast.
7:30am: Eat a light breakfast of breadfruit, bread and samoan jam, local fruits, eggs on toast, corned beef and a cup of Royal Tea. Special breakfast Domino's Pizza (mixed pizza with above ingredients) and Samoa's Coffee for Alesana under sponsorship deals.

8am: Get dressed for training session. Alesana rehearsing his stupid dance for Samoa's Coffee advert.

10am: Still getting dressed for training session.
10:05am: General Training starts in the park, by the bus stop in Apia.

11am: End of coconut lifting drill, speed training (catch the pig), and endurance (run away from the rabid stray dog) exercises.
11:15am: Small rest. Water fight with ice cubes.
11:30am: Start of basic passing drills.
11:32am: End of basic passing drills.

LUNCH BREAK

Picnic lunch consists of taro, vaimoa, tinned fish, banana (in coconut cream), oka, pisupo (Corned beef), bread/toast and a coconut drink. For Alesana, a Domino's lunchtime pizza (mixed pizza with above ingredients) and Samoa's coffee.

1pm: Back to the park by the bus stop for more training. Forwards and backs separate for specialised training.

Forwards training:

2pm: End of scrum practice (8 men pushing the bus to Moataa), lineout practice (who can jump and fetch the coconut stuck in the palm tree), ruck and maul practice (whoever gets the ST$200 first keeps it) and tackle/contact practice (run into a tree repeatedly until it falls over)

Backs training

2pm: End of general backs session (mimicking Wilkinson place kicks and seeing who can kick the ball furthest into Apia harbour), set-piece practice (watch videos of All Blacks) tackle practice (run into a tree until it falls over) and 'catching the ball' practice with replica size ball made of soap. (Note, no dropped balls with soap ball)

3pm: End of break, and back to Aggey's.
4pm: End of autograph session.
4:10pm: Free for the rest of the day to visit many relatives.

DINNER

8pm: Consists of taro, vaimoa, mutton ribs, tinned fish, tinned spaghetti, banana (in coconut cream), oka, lobster, pisupo (Corned beef), bread/toast and a coconut drink.

For Alesana, a Domino's pizza (mixed pizza with above ingredients) and Samoa's coffee.

8:04pm: End of dinner.
8:20pm: Rest for the night except Alesana who can't sleep because he is full of coffee for a 4am wake-up to play All Blacks in Wellington.

Yeah I havn't seen the Samoan backs in the PNC this yeah have any decent phases...it crash ball central! Its sad as the Samoan has good ability and I think if they got the ball and didn't kick away they might show up some of the other island teams and the japs!
