I have been bored so i decided to look up some of the stats of shane bond and compare them. just basic stats, i know he hasn't been aroudn that long but i was bored :)

first i looked at career strike rates. This is what i found

Name Mat Balls M R W Ave Best 5 10 SR Econ Team
GA Lohmann 18 3830 364 1205 112 10.75 9-28 9 5 34.1 1.88 ENG
SE Bond 13 2370 89 1291 63 20.49 6-51 4 1 37.6 3.26 NZ
JJ Ferris 9 2302 251 775 61 12.70 7-37 6 1 37.7 2.01 AUS/ENG
SF Barnes 27 7873 356 3106 189 16.43 9-103 24 7 41.6 2.36 ENG
AEE Vogler 15 2764 96 1455 64 22.73 7-94 5 1 43.1 3.15 RSA

J Cowie 9 2028 65 969 45 21.53 6-40 4 1 45.0 2.86 NZ
JV Saunders 14 3565 116 1796 79 22.73 7-34 6 - 45.1 3.02 AUS

He is second!!! but i thought only playing 13 tests that may be the reason. But he has over 50 wickets!! so also i thought its a fair assumption at the moment. the qualification for this list was 2000 balls bowled

Then i looked at averages

Ok he is 15th on the list, still not bad (also 2000 balls bowled is the cut off) But does this mean that he is the best player currently? I dont know. I am going to do some more digging into this. are there any players out there you want me to get stats for from there last 13 games (to just see how good they are over the same amount of games) this isnt taking into account who has played who just the over all record.

i am going to do Lee, McGrath, Warne, Murili, Pollock(for some reason he is ranked up there), aktar, harmison, vettori, and flintof. anyone else out of the CURRENT players they want me to check? or am i just going to do this for my own benifit :)

hope you guys liked the read anyway :) (dont know if this should be in talking balls or not but thats pretty much what i am doing anyway)

If Bond hadn't had those injuries, and started earlier he would've easily have gone down as one of, if not our greatest bowlers ever.

M Balls R W Avg BB RR SR 5 10
Shane Bond 13 2370 1291 63 20.49 6-51 3.26 37.6 4 1

Brett Lee 15 3483 2270 63 36.03 5/30 3.91 55.2 2 0

From this (doing 15 cause its easy to do) lee has taking same amount of wickets in 2 more tests, thats another 4 innings. Bonds average is way lower, and also his run rate and strike rate come into it as well. Surprisingly, lee has only got 2 5 wicket hauls in the last 15 games.

Lees games include the 5 test ashes series vs england, 1 test vs Zimbabwe in australia, 2 tests vs india in australia, world XI in australia and also the West Indies and SAF in australia. so most of them were on home soil

Glen McGrath 15 3674 1567 70 22.38 6/115 2.55 52.4 3 0

Glen McGrath's last 15 matches are very impressive. average of 22 and 7 more wickets than bond as well. run rate of a very cheap 2.55 an over is excellent, but he has bowled alot of balls with a strike rate of over 50 when shanes is under 40. The rest of this series against the west indies will bring shane up to 15 matches so we will see how that compares at the end of that. But i would just put mcgrath in front of bond, for 2 reasons. He creates pressure for the bowler at the other end to take wickets (normally warne) and is always one of the bowlers the other team has to look out for.

His matches were against:
2 vs Pakistan in Australia
3 vs New Zealand in New Zealand
3 vs England in England (Ashes 2005)
1 vs ICC XI in Australia
2 vs SAF in Australia

When Bond first came on to the first class scene he was ranked as a first change bowler. Bowling around 120kph. Then he had some problems and couldnt hold a place in the canterbury team so he decided to join the police force. From there the strengthning in his back with all the work he was doing kind of pinged something into place. and he was bowling with some real pace. He wasnt playing all the time for Canterbury when he was taken over for the tour of Australia.

He bowled in the nets to the team before they left and they couldnt play him, from there after (someone i cant remember who it was nash maybe) was injured bond got drafted over to play against queensland, then to the second test against the aussies

and the rest is history :)
