Just started watching the highlights on Setanta and Calcutta's kit is frankly abysmal. I thought Italy produced some horrible sports kit but this is even worse lol.

Anyway, liking what I'm seeing, Brendan McCullum is on fire, the crowd is pumped and its enjoyable to watch!

yeah i came home at 2am last night, thought i would stay up and see how mccullum goes then go to bed when he gets out...

5am bugger, but damn worth staying up to watch :)

150 in 20 overs by one player is magic :)

i have no idea what bangalore got though

Kolkata Knight Riders 222 for 3 (McCullum 158*) beat Bangalore Royal Challengers 82 (Agarkar 3-25) by 140 runs

Ill go for kolkata for the sheer coolness of there name knights riders.

I might watch it tonight if its on ten. :) </span>

Hope you dont mind Preswick but just thought we could make this the "official" IPL thread :)

It's glorious that Channel 10 is showing the matches. Although the time difference does make it quite a bugger indeed!

Totals of 222 and 240, individual scores above 100 and one above 150...entertaining stuff!

Ponting is abysmal!

Tonights game
Rajasthan Royals v Kings XI Punjab at Jaipur - Apr 21, 2008
Match scheduled to begin at 20:00 local time (14:30 GMT)

Players to watch
Rajasthan Royals

Shane Warne
Darren Lehmann
Shane Watson

Other decent Players in squad...
Younis Khan
Graeme Smith
Yusuf Pathan
Justin Langer
Dimitri Mascarenhas
Morne Morkel

Kings XI Punjab
Yuvraj Singh
James Hopes
Simon Katich
Ifran Pathan
Kumar Sangakkara

Other Players in squad
Mahela Jayawardene
Luke Pomersbach
Kylie Mills
Brett Lee

Both these sides have coem off loses. The Kings XI Punjab put up a good fight trying to chase down 240 against Chennai Super Kings still got to 207 where the Rajasthan Royals were humiliated by the Delhi Daredevils.

Its quite hard to pick who is going to be in the squad with so many good players in both wider squads. I wonder how the owner/captain/coach picks there squad.

Lehmann and Watson really need to lift their game for the Royals I think if they want to have a chance against a good batting lineup. The Kings XI Punjab need to put up a more disciplied bowling performance.

Hopefully the pitch holds up more than the game I watched last night. Scott Styris was getting the ball to turn square almost. and he is a pacebowler (kindof)

well each team can only have 4 overseas players in the playing 11 so that definitely affects selection. this is why you will see the teams with plenty of indian players and some you haven't heard of before.

I finally got to see some matches on the weekend. watched mike hussey just smash it to all parts of the ground. some of the pitches are indeed shocking like the one the knight riders played on in their second game. there were puffs off dust coming off the pitch in the second over. some of the team lineups are very interesting with some investing heavily in overseas bowlers while others batters and some getting a mixture. the royals and the daredevils would appear to be 2 of the weaker teams and it will be interesting to see how they survive when they lose some of their overseas players.

a lot of the kiwis will only be playing a few matches since they have to go back on international duty in england and plenty of south africans are missing too due to the IPL clashing with their domestic 20/20 comp. I also wish the viewing times were a bit better too. I can probably see the first game each night as they seem to be starting around 10ish eastern aus time and ending around midnight. no hope of watching the second game though as it just ends too late but I could record that one. anyway opening few games have been great to watch certainly entertaining and some great match-ups between mates that normally play together.

thanks for that esoj, i didnt know about the 4 international player rule in the comp. Its just crazy they spend so much money on these guys and they may not even use them.

i think the kiwis are only playing until may 1st so its very short for them which is unfortunate for guys like mccullum, he might only get to play 4 or 5 games. He is currently the top scorer but i dont see it ending up that way.

yeah mccullum seems made for 20/20 and he seems to be just batting and not keeping which is probably helping his focus too. there is a lot of pressure on from the players to get a regular 6 weekish window in the international calendar so that the ipl can be played without clashing with international committments.
