The IPL will be held outside India this year after tournament organisers failed to get security guarantees from the Indian government.

With the tournament clashing with local elections the decision has been taken to stage the tournament outside of India.

England and South Africa appear to be the 2 options available to the BCCI at the moment with an anoucement expected in the coming days.

Would be great if its held here in SA, but it will probably be held in England as SA will already be hosting the Champions Trophy...

but are there enough venues, England sounds like a strange venue given the whole April showers issue, SA seems to make sense.

The UAE have some of the best facilities in the world, the Sharaja (sp) tournament was played there before so there must be enough stadiums!

well there's only Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, surely they need more than 2 venues?

True but I reckon if they want to improve cricket around the world thats the place to go!

that's a fair point but if they go there, you've got 4 teams per venue basically, are there enough training facilities to accomodate that number of teams in or around 1 venue, if not then it has to be SA or England for the moment.

well firstly it was being reported that England were the favourites to host the IPL but now they're saying SA, trying to get as much mileage out of this story as possible methinks, oh well anouncement is tomorrow.

Right it's just been confirmed on Setanta News that the IPL will take place in South Africa with new dates for the competition starting on April 18-May 24.

Thought it would be South Africa, it wouldn't make sense to take a risk on the English weather.

not just the weather but the domestic season in SA finishes on Good Friday therefore freeing up the venues.

TV rights also seem to have been an issue, with Supersports holding the SA rights to the tournament, it'll be interesting to see if they're the host broadcaster for this tournament but it would have been more complicated in the UK with Sky holding all the domestic rights but Setanta having the IPL, whether they'd have been in a position to be host broadcaster remains to be seen.

There's also the relative costs of hosting a tournament in SA as opposed to the UK.
