I am almost certain of it. I will even put money on it.

They have a fantastic coach, and coaching staff. They have a settled team. And they know the conditions all too well.

Those are my thoughts :)

I took the liberity of moving the thread to 'General Rugby Union' as I was sure it had nothing to do with Rugby 7's ;P

Ireland are certainly flying high but a RWC title.. maybe. How much money are we talking about here, @Rugga-lad? Just don't bet your house on it is all I'm saying.

Oops, thanks Stormer.

About R1000 maybe. Will see. The odds currently are great.

Please don't say that! :p

Right now, I think we have a team to reach a semi-final and compete in that. To win we really need to get a centre partnership that can break the line and set up try scoring opportunities and two forwards who have the ability to do the same. I think we have the players and the coach to win a world cup in England but I'm not sure if we have enough time to get there and if we were to meet New Zealand we'd need a hell of a lot of luck. I'd stick money on any of the SANZAR sides ahead of Ireland but if a side from up here were to win I'd agree that at this moment in time Ireland are your best bet.

Stop everybody stop. This is just like Autumn 06' we clean sweep the AI's and everybody jumps on a bandwagon expecting is to win a GS and then go take a RWC...

C'mon mates, this WC is undoubtly for us !!!

Jokin

I wouldn't bet too much on Aussies, but ABs and Saf for sure, one of these 2 will get to the final !

They have the technique and condition for that, but do they have the mental for a WC semi and final ?
Sexton is good, but is it enough to be world champion ?

Ireland nearly did last year. They would've learnt from that.
Thing is we didn't and we won't be at home next time. But last time we were in this situation we had awful RWC. Injuries Form and Personnel will change also so it's hard to say. Yes we are in a good spot now but NOW doesn't matter it's next year that does. We got no prizes for winning 3 games in AI's and even winning 6 Nations won't set it in stone that we do well. There's very little between top 6/7 teams. (Excluding NZ) But NZ come in to bracket as they do choke at RWC at times. Yes they won it last time but they won't be at home so it's simply a case of who can peak at right time.

no I think the spotlight will be too much for Ireland, as usual. And they do have this tendency of doing fantastic in those November tours and then completely disappoint in the following 6N and WC. I mean remember 2006-07 ? That's just historically though, maybe this side is different, we'll just have to see. But it's not impertinent to bring it up.
I do see the All-Blacks choking too. Again, historical not current, but again, not nearly far-fetched to mention it.

France is a nuclear bomb mine, it's been deactivated for a very long time but that never means it's off for good, it's still a mine in nature you can't change the fundamental components of its circuits, its detonation function is still there somewhere. Who knows who they can knock out before coming up short again, like a kamikaze, ridding the world of a fearsome foe - that would change the entire map of the WC.
For me it's really still down to the All-Blacks and Springboks, today, and no one else. Let's see what I say in another 4 months.

What's the odds on Ireland winning it? Saying they'll win it, be favourites, nope, saying there might be value at the bookies is a different thing...

What's the odds on them reaching the final?
