knock-on's** / multi-player

I've only played multi-player so far, so I'm not sure if it's only affect that.

In all the games I've played there has been a lot of knock-on's. So far I've put it down to going into tackles doing a sidestep or attempting to pass(always holding the sprint button to), that creates a higher chance of a knock-on. Anyone else have an opinion on this as I'd like to try and make my ball retention a little better.

Also do you think the difficulty level in multi-player vs matches affects the games?
I played all the games bar one with the setting on hard the other match I played on easy. I did not notice much difference. Mostly because I control the defender for all the tackles. I was hoping the AI on defending players you don't control are smarter?
Sometimes hitting R1 or L1 rapidly to move ball quick hands like causes knocks.
Or more so drops.
So is this trying to pass quick not getting the pass off and losing the ball forward in the tackle?

It's definetly common(not garunteed) to knock on when attempting a kick..
So I asume it is when attempting a sidestep too.

Hopefully not when you do a charge.
No more so you hit R1 say 3x rapidly and 2nd guy drops pass to him because he rushed pass.
