Leeds Carnegie have signed 32-year-old Fijian winger Semi Tadulala from Gloucester on a two year contract.<!-- {/abstract} --> <!-- CACHE premier/ENG-805f909be090698798d606de18274b21-5172b7d6d11d2be8ad3958ac8b0673f3.php 2010-06-01 10:25:20 --> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js"></script><iframe src="http://api.tweetmeme.com/button.js?url=http%3A//www.guinnesspremiership.com/news/13757.php&style=normal" frameborder="0" height="61" scrolling="no" width="50"></iframe>

For Tadulala it means a return to West Yorkshire where he made a name for himself in the 13 man code with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Bradford Bulls. In 49 appearances for Bradford between 2008 and 2009 he scored an impressive 30 tries in addition to the 36 he scored for Wakefield between 2004 and 2008. Born in Fiji but brought up in Australia, Tadulala first came to prominence representing Fiji in the 2000 Rugby League World Cup before joining Melbourne Storm where he stayed for three seasons.
He then moved to the UK to join the Wakefield before signing for Bradford Bulls in September 2007.
Tadulala made his debut in Rugby Union with the Fijian national team against Romania last Autumn which delayed his arrival at Gloucester. He only made two appearances for the Cherry and Whites, both coming in the LV Cup.
Looking ahead to his future at Leed Carnegie, Tadulala said, "I am looking forward to kick starting my Rugby Union career here at Leeds Carnegie. I know the area very well and used to live in Headingley when I played at Wakefield and Bradford. I was very impressed when I came up and met with Andy Key and Neil Back.
"I am looking forward to running out at Headingley Carnegie as a Leeds player come the start of the season. I have played there on a lot of occasion and there is a great atmosphere there however I have always been in the opposition so it will make a nice change to hear people cheering for me!
"I am getting married this summer so it is big time for me in my life. I am excited about married life and excited about starting my new life at Leeds Carnegie too. Things are certainly looking up and I can not wait to get started," added Tadulala.
Commenting on the signing Director of Rugby Andy Key said, "Semi is a strong and powerful runner who has shown throughout his Rugby League career that he knows his way to the try line. Unfortunately things did not work out for him at Gloucester but we have spoken to him and he has a burning desire to succeed in Rugby Union. He is an experienced player who has represented his country at both codes and will be a big additional to our squad for next season."

Fair play to him for showing a desire to improve at rugby union and not running back to rugby league at the first opportunity. I fear that at 32 he's too old to learn the nuances of the sport. Chris Ashton is another who pushed himself to succeed at union but he's a decade younger than Tadulala.
