PS: Is that the Soren Larsen in your avatar?
Indeed it is! For no other reason than it's a nice looking brigantine :)

Never been on the Soren Larsen, just sailed past it on a catamaran, in Vavau IIRC.

Vintage Sige thread. Glory days are back. Maybe it's an effort to compensate for the fact Wales aren't even represented on the Union Flag and Ireland somehow are. That's just grim.

It came to Nelson when I was a teenager. It was open to the public and my Dad took me on board. She has quite a history; was used quite a lot in British TV series The Onedin Line (but not the one you see in the credits - that is the Christian Radich, a three-masted full-rigger).

You know the Soren it wasn't always a Brigantine? When it visited Nelson in the late 1960's (before it was severely damaged by fire) it was a ketch-rigged Galeas, but when it was refitted around 1980 it was re-rigged as a Brigantine.

She sure is a beautiful tall ship.

I did not know that!

Whoever made the decision to go for square rigging on the mainmast is a legend though.

That would be an organization called "Square Sail Britain". They no longer exist, but much or their records and archives ended up with "Square Sail Ventures" at Charlestown Harbour in Cornwall.

This is a conspiracy to rival "Bush did 9/11"
