London Welsh will re-enact the first-ever fixture in the club's 126-year history when London Scottish make the short trip to Old Deer Park on Saturday (2pm).
Scottish provided London Welsh's first-ever opponents in October 1885, winning by a goal and a try to no score at the Athletic Ground, while Saturday's Championship clash will be the fourth league meeting between the two great rivals.

Are those four meetings throughout their histories, or just in the championship?

If the former, I thought there would be far more than that...

Just the Championship I think ... 'The last time they locked horns in the league was in 1989/90 when Scottish won 18-14 in League 3 at the Athletic Ground. In 1988/89 in League 2 the two sides played out a 24-24 draw at Old Deer Park, while in 1987/88 Welsh came out on top 29-10, again at Old Deer Park.'

They have played them this year also. Welsh ran out 44-9 victors and the season before that Welsh won 67-12.

A last gasp penalty from former Scotland international Gordon Ross broke London Scottish hearts at Old Deer Park, as London Welsh took the bragging rights in the battle of the Exiles.

Apparently it was a good game to watch.

Wish Sky or some TV company would pick up these games.

Sky do, just nowhere near enough. The next game they are showing is us vs Bedford on Dec 23rd

Agreed, the RFU Champ is good to watch
Wish they would let BBC, or whoever, show some games, like how S4/C show some Welsh Prem games

They might lose, at first, a few people who'd rather watch on telly than at the ground but you'd get more people interested in the league and numbers would go up as a whole

really? Worcester aren't exactly a special side but hardly lost a match in the league last season

how many teams from that league could beat Newcastle?

Id say a few. Granted that the lower end sides are dire. The majority of teams tend to play some good rugby.

This is what Chris Pennell said as well in our interview with him here on TRF in response to my question about the standard of play in the RFU Championship, that the top four or five teams aren't that bad than their is a middle tier and some really bad teams at the bottom, Esher in particular is struggling mightily, Phil Mackenzie has been their only stand out player and they still do not even have a point on the season.
