It was honours even at Bayer Growers Stadium in Pukekohe tonight with the Chiefs and Blues drawing 12-12 in front of around 7,000 spectators.

In the last hit out before the Super Rugby season begins, there was nothing to separate the two teams, who both scored two tries apiece.

The Chiefs camp will be comfortable with their efforts from this game, but there will be concerns from the Blues.

Ten minutes into the game Luke McAlister, who was playing first-five, had to be taken off with what looked like a neck or head injury. While lying on the ground receiving treatment both Stephen Donald and Tana Umaga came over to see him and walked away looking concerned.

Blues coach Pat Lam said they wouldn't know until tomorrow how serious the injury was.

Neither side were able to score any points over the first half, although the Chiefs did come close with a few tries to push over from a metre out.

Tana Umaga put in another solid performance, although he did make a few handling errors.

It was similar for Mils Muliaina, who was playing his first game of the season.

The standout for the Chiefs though was local boy Fritz Lee, who made a number of big runs up the middle.

Shining out for the Blues was Benson Stanley. He put in some big hits on defence, continually organised his side's backline and made a few darts around the fringes.

It didn't take long in the second half for some points to finally arrive, Tim Nanai-Williams made a strong run up the middle and just after the ball was fed wide to Donald, who ran in to score.

Scott Waldrom dived in from close range under the posts shortly after, while Joe Rokocoko gave the Blues their first points midway through the second half from a long range run, finishing off a clean break from Benson Stanley.

Matt Luamanu scored the next try for the Blues 10 minutes from the end of the game when both sides were fielding largely second-string line ups.

Chiefs 12 (Stephen Donald, Scott Waldrom tries; Donald con) Blues 12 (Joe Rokocoko, Matt Luamanu tries; Lachie Munro con) HT: 0-0

It seems most teams will have lots of injuries.
i will start a Blues thread for the Blues fans.

Unlucky on McAlister, hopefully it's nothing serious
Would've needed a big Super15 season to break his way back into the ABs, and to miss X amount of it won't be good
Wonder if this cements his move to Europe?

It depends on how long he will be out of the game.
If Brett actully starts doing what he needs to do, competition for the n°10 spot will be hard.

Why do we need threads for each team?? It's ridiculously annoying...

Hopefully McAlister will be alright. I'm really hoping he recovers alright, and has a good season.

McAlister will only be out for one, two games at most.

I would liek to see McAlistair in the 10 jersey. Brett is flaky (even for Canterbury)- he is not consistent enough either.
