PUTRAJAYA, 7 November 2011 - SHANGHAI RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB (SRFC) hosted its biggest ever tournament of the year with a huge success.

8th Shanghai International Touch Tournament is the biggest in Asia. Approximately around 400 players from over 40 teams competing in Men's, Women's, Masters (35+), Mixed, Juniors and Corporate Divisions. The teams from cities of Tokyo Japan, Putrajaya Malaysia, Manila Philippines, Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangdong, Nanjing and Yantai China had toured to Shanghai City and had a great games on that entire Saturday. The competition was held at SRFC grounds Wai Gao Qiao in Shanghai China.

The tournament was a huge success. Men, women and children played Ninety Sevens (97) games across six (6) divisions contested under International Touch rules. It was played in six(6) touch rugby fields and the tournament was sponsored by more than 12 companies; Frazers Suites, Big Bamboo, Everbright Pramerica, C Pro Elite, Silly Cow Design, X Blades, PWC, Parkway Health, DELTA, Rio Tinto, Dow Corning, Santa Fe Relocation Services, Crown Plaza and SRFC. Shanghai International Touch was very well organized. To the newcomers, Putrajaya Scorpion Women in Touch (Scorpion SWiT) and Nanjing Mulan, it was definately a great experience and an eye-opener indeed.

Malaysian had no problems playing in this tournament as they have been following the FIT Standards Rules and Regulation right from the beginning during their local games in Putrajaya ie. Scorpion Sevens 2011 and the recent Putrajaya Touch 2011 in October.

The presence of big names in Touch such as Shanghai Dragons, Manila Nomads, Hong Kong Blades, Beijing Devils, Japan Crows, Dulwich, Rio Tinto, Shanghai Wolvorine and Bucks had made the tournament an even greater success .

SHANGHAI DRAGONS emerged champions after defeating Manila Nomads (2-0) in Women Final. Participating for the first time at international level, Putrajaya Scorpion SWiT climbed to third (3rd) ranking after Shanghai Dragons (1st) and Manila Nomads (2nd) followed by The Corporations team from Shanghai City at the fourth (4th) ranking.

" A big thank you to Craig Gveric, Jeramy Burks, Garry Stout, Mie Yamanami and Wiison Chen who all put a lot of their efforts and tremendous amount of time to make today a success," said Peter Chiang, President of Shanghai Touch Association.

For Doctor Zalina Abd. Razak, Team Manager of Putrajaya Scorpion SWiT, it was an excellent experience to be able to compete at international level with big name teams such as Shanghai Dragons and Manila Nomads .

" Thank you for inviting us from Malaysia. It was a great honour to be invited to a such great tournament in Asia, our first international entrance. Special thanks to Mr. Peter Chiang, Louise Leonard, Jeremy Burks, Craigh Gveric, Geoff Cotton, Brendan Ritchie, Mie Yamanami, Jessica Zhang , SRFC and Big Bamboo Restaurant for providing the best event and excellent hospitality during our stay in Shanghai. ," said Doctor Zalina Abd. Razak.

" It has been our dream to bring back to Malaysia on how actual Touch should be played following the FIT rules and regulation," said Doctor Zalina Abd. Razak again.

As Sufiani Johari, President Scorpion Putrajaya Rugby Club (SPRC) of Malaysia said;

" Our mission in Shanghai China is for Putrajaya to be recognized and affiliated to Federation of International Touch (FIT). We truly appreciate the support given by Shanghai Touch Association especially from Mr. Peter Chiang and Mr. Jeramy Burks, the big man of Shanghai Touch. We shall from now onwards focus on development of Touch Referee, Coaching Clinic for school children (boys and girls) in Putrajaya and further strengthen the existing Scorpion Women in Touch (SWiT)." Said Sufiani Johari.

" Special thanks to Datuk Ahmad Phesal Hj Talib, Chief Secretary of Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Malaysia for giving us the tireless moral support and En. Mohd Hamidi Abu Bakar, Director of Federal Teritory Sports Council Malaysia and Mr. Riza Amarallah Beg, Managing Director of Mediksoft Sdn Bhd for his support to enable us to reach Shanghai International Touch Tourney," Said Sufiani again.

The tournament closed off with after tournament party at Big Bamboo Jing Ann Shanghai.
