Shocked Kiwis watched as a naked, drunk and bleeding Zac Guildford staggered into a beachside Rarotonga bar and assaulted two holidaymakers.Witnesses said the All Black winger suddenly appeared dripping wet and without clothes in Trader Jacks, a popular bar and restaurant, about 10pm on Friday (NZ time). He was bleeding from a gash to his forehead and wounds on his chest and knees, thought to have happened when he fell off a scooter earlier in the day.Guildford, 22, first punched one man in the bar who asked him if he needed help. The All Black then staggered to the bar and hit Australian Nick Cox across the back of the head.Yesterday Cox, who is in Rarotonga with his wife Jenny and a group of 10 Kiwi friends to celebrate his 60th birthday, said he was more shocked than injured by the assault in the bar."I was standing at the bar waiting to get a drink and I wasn't expecting it," he said.Guildford is in Rarotonga for the wedding of rugby mate Jarred McCarthy, who plays for the Napier Pirates Rugby Club, and his fiancee Sam Barlow.
The couple will marry on the island tomorrow before a large group of family and friends, including All Black Israel Dagg.In September, Guildford admitted to a drinking problem and met with All Blacks coaches to promise he would take steps to control his drinking. But the Kiwis watching him on Friday night say his behaviour was appalling.Fiona, an Auckland woman also celebrating a birthday with the same group of Kiwis in Rarotonga, said Guildford was extremely drunk."His eyes were gone, he was completely out of it," she said.Fiona said she and her two daughters were shocked to see Guildford stagger drunkenly round the bar.One of her daughters and her boyfriend had been thrilled to realise they were on the same Auckland to Rarotonga Air New Zealand flight with Guildford on Wednesday night. But the daughter later went on Facebook to say their "completely defenceless" 60-year-old friend had been "blindsided" by a drunk Guildford. After assaulting Cox, Guildford climbed up on to the bar's stage, Fiona said."At that stage he seemed to realise he was naked and tried to cover his penis."Restaurant staff rushed to wrap an apron round Guildford's waist as he bolted into the kitchen.A group of Guildford's friends came in looking for him and hustled him out the back into a carpark, his naked backside still showing through the gap in the apron, she said.Cox, who lives on the Sunshine Coast, said he did not plan to lay a formal complaint about the assault but, referring to Guildford's drinking problem, said the All Black had "an issue that he needs to sort out".He wondered if Guildford had possibly mistaken him for former All Blacks coach Graham Henry. "I'm 60 and bald and I think Henry's the same."Another witness said Guildford appeared "completely psychotic".Trader Jacks staff member David Tautu said he didn't care that the drunken man was an All Black. "I was just trying to get him out of here. He was naked and bleeding and he got into a scuffle at the bar."Junior, a barman at Trader Jacks, said the mostly Kiwi crowd began to turn on Guildford, shouting "You're a f***ing embarrassment, you're an All Black" and other profanities at him. Both Tautu and Junior said the police were called and showed up shortly after. However, Cook Islands police yesterday said they had received no reports of indecent exposure that night.Earlier in the night Guildford was drinking with the wedding couple at their villa on Muri Beach.Barlow said she was not aware of an incident at Trader Jacks. Earlier in the day Guildford had picked her and McCarthy up from the airport. He was not intoxicated when he left their villa but she did not remember what time that was. When told he had been bleeding at the bar, Barlow said he had fallen from a scooter earlier.- Additional reporting: Cook Islands News

T
he NZRU have got to make a stand on this one. There is a massive difference between what Tindall did or what Jane did to this incident. Assaulting a 60 year old is pretty bad. I don't want to see Guildford ever play for the All Blacks again; his contract must be torn up. How would you feel if you were Hosea Gear? He has never been in any of this trouble and is actually a better play than Guildford.

At the start I was like , haha naked in a bar , just a messy night , as it progressed I slowly began feeling ill , blindsiding a 60 year old man ? Scumbag , should have had his head put through the bar...

What the....

On first read through I thought it was a joke or something. Absolutely disgusting.

If Tindall get's a £25k ban and booted from the England set-up for getting drunk on a night out I dread to think what'll happen here --> Public stoning? Hung drawn and quartered?

Only when I blow this whistle

But yeah, thats disgraceful behaviour, it depends on if the NZRU are stricter than the RFU. If it were me Guildford wouldn't wear the shirt again especially, as William18 says, there are people like Gear waiting in the wings.

Never missing an oppertunity are you?

What's with rugby players and alcohol?? I swear it makes them go more crazy than the average human.

Always hitting up the puns...waiting in the wings....Perhaps unintentional but I thought twas class :p

That's disgusting.
Thank goodness we have players such as Andy Powell, whose drunk antics are more comical and lighthearted. ;)

Ok, that's completely unintentional. I still can't work out what pun I've made.

In answer to your previous question. Yes, I do enjoy my puns and will try to shoehorn them in where necessary

Maybe a couple of days in the jail might sort himself out, he did of course assault someone.

A quick look suggests a term between 60 days and a year for assult. Of course thats UK courts though

Most probably just a slap on the wrist by the NZRU; we all know most sportsmen and women are treated differently, especially if they are an All Black.

Shameful stuff and he's got a serious problem. I think he needs to be stood down from test selection for at least a year, maybe two. Only ever allowed back if he can show a good history of zero trouble for that time period. It's a disgrace and perhaps no wonder at all that he hardly got any WC game time. I feel very sorry for Gear and practically every other New Zealand winger.
