First, i'll say it's great to be back and i want to genuinely mod again for the upcoming season. I think we have learned the lessons of mistakes made in other years, where as modders we haven't been on the same page. I hope this season it will be different. So for the 2009-10 update of EA Rugby 08, here are my thoughts. Please let me know what you think, and if you agree with them. Developing the mod forum: In my mind, it has been way too disorganised. There are no real patches going on apart from MUP09 and it's various guises, so i suggest that for the common benefit we give this forum an overhaul and makeover to bring it onto par with other sites. My ideas for this are below. 1. We need to step up to the plate as modders and actually pull our weight into one project. Many hands make light work. So we basically need certain specialist modders who can be relied upon to produce quality mods within a specific deadline. This can be anything from kits, to graphics to coding and schedules. 2. Just have a common connection, that means we can all get on with our roles and jobs, but ultimately know we are going to get something amazing at the end of it and some kind of agreement that the mod won't fall apart because we all got bored. Projects for 2009-2010 season: MUP 09 has effectively made the base patch for any future releases. I think it is essential now that we keep to the original game format in hindsight. I don't think changing or adding modes really works, but we can add teams into the game which should really be there every season. My ideas for the 2009-10 project are below 1. I think we should have a shake-up of teams, but keep it as original as possible. I don't think anyone will really miss the Maori, Barbarians, Australia A, Pacific Islanders or JAB's to be honest, if we replaced them with.. Western Province, Blue Bulls, Natal Sharks, Auckland, Wellington Lions and Canterbury. At most you a Pacific Nations Cup could be made with JAB's in place of 6 Nations, or maybe a FIRA-AER Cup with the 2nd tier teams. Also, i may convert the Legends Patch to 08 as well, which would just be an add-on for national teams, it played around and it seems to work best with national teams. What do you all think? Modders for 2009-2010 project: Please add your name here if you will want to join rank with a 2009-2010 project and complete the task given to you, or that you choose to take on. Thanks! A quick list of modders we need is below, i think it's best we all have specialist modders doing specialist areas, rather than a whole mishmash of everyone attempting everything. Face section: (we need modders to concentrate on regions for faces ideally so we get diversity and resprentation right) so please put your name down for these categories if you would like to make a significant amount of faces from that region. We will need the generated filenames then we can have one for every player easily. - Australian S14 faces - New Zealand S14 faces - South African S14 faces - Argentinian faces - USA and Canada faces - Japan faces (if any at all) - Italian faces - French and TOP14 faces - English faces - Scottish faces - Welsh faces - Irish faces - Fijian faces - Samoan faces - Tongan faces - Other international player faces (i.e Romania, Spain, Uruguay, Georgia, Russia etc) Kits (and their minikits) section: (we need modders to concentrate on regions/competitions for kits ideally) so please put your name down for these categories if you would like to seriously make kits AND the minikit for it as well (with help if needed) - Australian S14 Kits - New Zealand S14 Kits - South African S14 faces - New Zealand ANZ Cup kits - South African Currie Cup kits - Italian (Euro shirts for H-Cup teams only) - French kits (Euro shirts for H-Cup teams only, or TOP14 kits) - Scottish Magners League kits - Welsh Magners League kits - Irish Magners League kits - International kits (by region or nation) Coding section: (we need to have specialist modders for this too) - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for H-Cup - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for RWC 2011 (as and when we do it) - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Guinness Premiership - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Super 14 - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Tri-Nations - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for RBS 6 Nations - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Lions Tour (This should be done by now, and would tie in with the domestic team add-on eventually) - dc.english specialist if possible. Roster section: (we need a full-time roster editor ideally) - Rosters for the game, but just the one type with the new add-on teams included. - rdf roster file for whoever feels brave enough to sort that one out! Graphics section: (we need front-end graphics modders ideally too) - Menu screens, Intro screens and front-end artwork. - Updating logos, overlays, score overlays for all teams as required (95% are done) NOTE: i did have a great idea for the team wipe logo in-game, which is to replace it with a logo like SAS software or an advert, like you would have on TV. We can do this for different TV stations, like SKY, skyNZ FOX, Canal+ etc. I did try it and it looks better. Also, i don't know if we can try and get some animation in the front-end, i have often wondered if the imported graphic could work as animation files, like gif or swf format. Has anyone ever tried? I think if we have something we will do, in other words our jobs.. we will get mods done quickly and looking good without 6 months of faffing around. We also might need a few gophers to find pics and data.. which anyone can do if you are that type that can't mod well but wants to help.
