First, i'll say it's great to be back and i want to genuinely mod again for the upcoming season. I think we have learned the lessons of mistakes made in other years, where as modders we haven't been on the same page. I hope this season it will be different. So for the 2009-10 update of EA Rugby 08, here are my thoughts. Please let me know what you think, and if you agree with them.

    Developing the mod forum:

In my mind, it has been way too disorganised. There are no real patches going on apart from MUP09 and it's various guises, so i suggest that for the common benefit we give this forum an overhaul and makeover to bring it onto par with other sites.

My ideas for this are below.

    1. We need to step up to the plate as modders and actually pull our weight into one project. Many hands make light work. So we basically need certain specialist modders who can be relied upon to produce quality mods within a specific deadline. This can be anything from kits, to graphics to coding and schedules.

    2. Just have a common connection, that means we can all get on with our roles and jobs, but ultimately know we are going to get something amazing at the end of it and some kind of agreement that the mod won't fall apart because we all got bored.

    Projects for 2009-2010 season:

MUP 09 has effectively made the base patch for any future releases. I think it is essential now that we keep to the original game format in hindsight. I don't think changing or adding modes really works, but we can add teams into the game which should really be there every season.

My ideas for the 2009-10 project are below

    1. I think we should have a shake-up of teams, but keep it as original as possible. I don't think anyone will really miss the Maori, Barbarians, Australia A, Pacific Islanders or JAB's to be honest, if we replaced them with.. Western Province, Blue Bulls, Natal Sharks, Auckland, Wellington Lions and Canterbury.

At most you a Pacific Nations Cup could be made with JAB's in place of 6 Nations, or maybe a FIRA-AER Cup with the 2nd tier teams.

Also, i may convert the Legends Patch to 08 as well, which would just be an add-on for national teams, it played around and it seems to work best with national teams.

    What do you all think?

    Modders for 2009-2010 project:

Please add your name here if you will want to join rank with a 2009-2010 project and complete the task given to you, or that you choose to take on. Thanks! A quick list of modders we need is below, i think it's best we all have specialist modders doing specialist areas, rather than a whole mishmash of everyone attempting everything.

Face section: (we need modders to concentrate on regions for faces ideally so we get diversity and resprentation right) so please put your name down for these categories if you would like to make a significant amount of faces from that region. We will need the generated filenames then we can have one for every player easily.

    - Australian S14 faces
    - New Zealand S14 faces
    - South African S14 faces
    - Argentinian faces
    - USA and Canada faces
    - Japan faces (if any at all)
    - Italian faces
    - French and TOP14 faces
    - English faces
    - Scottish faces
    - Welsh faces
    - Irish faces
    - Fijian faces
    - Samoan faces
    - Tongan faces
    - Other international player faces (i.e Romania, Spain, Uruguay, Georgia, Russia etc)

    Kits (and their minikits) section:
(we need modders to concentrate on regions/competitions for kits ideally) so please put your name down for these categories if you would like to seriously make kits AND the minikit for it as well (with help if needed)

    - Australian S14 Kits
    - New Zealand S14 Kits
    - South African S14 faces
    - New Zealand ANZ Cup kits
    - South African Currie Cup kits
    - Italian (Euro shirts for H-Cup teams only)
    - French kits (Euro shirts for H-Cup teams only, or TOP14 kits)
    - Scottish Magners League kits
    - Welsh Magners League kits
    - Irish Magners League kits
    - International kits (by region or nation)

    Coding section:
(we need to have specialist modders for this too)

    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for H-Cup
    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for RWC 2011 (as and when we do it)
    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Guinness Premiership
    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Super 14
    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Tri-Nations
    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for RBS 6 Nations
    - Competition Schedules/Fixtures for Lions Tour (This should be done by now, and would tie in with the domestic team add-on eventually)
    - dc.english specialist if possible.

Roster section: (we need a full-time roster editor ideally)

    - Rosters for the game, but just the one type with the new add-on teams included.
    - rdf roster file for whoever feels brave enough to sort that one out!

Graphics section: (we need front-end graphics modders ideally too)

    - Menu screens, Intro screens and front-end artwork.
    - Updating logos, overlays, score overlays for all teams as required (95% are done)

NOTE: i did have a great idea for the team wipe logo in-game, which is to replace it with a logo like SAS software or an advert, like you would have on TV. We can do this for different TV stations, like SKY, skyNZ FOX, Canal+ etc. I did try it and it looks better.

Also, i don't know if we can try and get some animation in the front-end, i have often wondered if the imported graphic could work as animation files, like gif or swf format. Has anyone ever tried?

I think if we have something we will do, in other words our jobs.. we will get mods done quickly and looking good without 6 months of faffing around. We also might need a few gophers to find pics and data.. which anyone can do if you are that type that can't mod well but wants to help.

Fa'atau I've actually already started with a patch/update for the default teams in the game.

Here is what I'm busy with...

*New stadium preview graphics for the SA, NZ & Aus stadiums:
SA stadiums are done, its just a pain to find high res pics of stadiums but I'm almost there.

    *New stadiums:
From what I've learnt helping Uli updating the fixtures of the MUP and seeing how you guys added/replaced stadiums, I've started "making" new stadiums for the game like GWK Park, Kimberley, SA(Cheetahs' second home stadium)
FMG Stadium, Palmerston North, NZ ect..
What I did for making GWK Park is I took a French stadium that was in night, edited the sky to be day and changed the grass type so that it looks like Bloemfontein's grass(the hard type).
Here is a preview of GWK Park:[IMG]

    *New conditions for stadiums:
Thanks to dady11's help I've learnt how to make new conditions for stadiums like Newlands night & overcast, Loftus day ect...
    Some previews:[IMG][IMG]

*New teams without replacing any of the default teams:
I've got it to work that you can replace the teams like the Euro All Stars, Super 12 All Stars with new teams like Toulon, Racing Metro ect...I've already gotten all their filenames for mini-kits, balls, kits and some of the logos using filemon.

*The restricting factor is that we can't expand the roster to have more players so this means even if we "make" new teams that we will still be limited to how many players will be available to put into these new teams after all the default teams are filled up...
*Another restricting factor is that we can't expand the .english file to have more text string for new stadium names ect...I've seen that the text string 2848 which contains "Watford, England" is the last text string in the .english file and if I add text after that into the .english file like "...FMG Stadium, Palmerston North" using a hex editor to be text string 2849 that I get a "Missing String 2849" error when the game is suppose to load that text string even if I add that info the info into the dc371d84ed78d4cf88a641a8d8abc38a.xml, or do you know of a way to add extra text strings into the .english file Fa'atau?

    Updating the roster:
Busy working on the 2009-2010 season of the European teams.

So yeah you can put me up for:
    *Roster editing
*Stadium preview graphics & making new stadiums and conditions
*Help with editing the .english file

Cheers Ross. You've been busy! Looking good i gotta say. Toulon and Racing Metro are in TOP14 now aren't they? So i thought the ideal solution for the player numbers issue, is to have the top 3 Currie Cup and Air New Zealand Cup teams in the representative section, and they will mainly use ALL the players that would likely be in the S14 sides.

That's what my next move was gonna be. Uli said he was releasing MUP09 or his version/update asap, so when that's out we can see where we are at and go from there. I think it's best to have some of the Currie Cup and Air NZ cup teams in, then at least it represents every major league in some way or other.

it does suck though that we can't use something like DB Commander, where you can just copy a player from one roster to another! That would be so cool if we could do that.

Yeah that would have been really great!
Maybe we can try and get Colin(kingwilko) to help us with some of the coding/hex editing stuff if he isn't too busy with planetcricket/personal things...?
Or maybe he knows of someone else that can help us...?
  6. great to see you back ;)

Ya things do need to be sorted out on these forums, there are too many patches where only one person has done all the work on it.
There are some very talented people on here who can create some great things e.g Uli's Andy Powell face :bravo: .If ye all come together ye could make an unbelievable patch.

And ye have to be put into your own categories like you said because otherwise everthing would be all over the place (like it is )

Did you say that you where putting the tutorials back up ?Because I would love to help out in anything for this project for two reasons 1.I feel like a prick sitting back and watching ye do all the work . I feel like im robbing ye and 2.From now till next august 2010 im pretty much free all the time i dont have much to worry about .

And if you do put the tutorials baack up im sure that you will get more people to help out because i would say that people on these forums (that have never done modding before) think it is impossible to do and if they watch your tutorial they would at least give it ago

Could you explain the "team wipe logo in-game" idea you have , i dont understand it.

edit faatau: In the match, you see logos that go from left to right scross the screen occasionally. You get them for competitions, and also when a team scores or gets a lineout or whatever. With those, on tv they are all flashy, but ea rugby make them extremely dull, so i had the clever idea of making adverts. So for example, for each team you can have an advert, or what i actually did was add sas software and companies that do matchday stats etc. So unless something can be done with flash (like an animation, which i could do) they would just look dull, so lets put something dull there

Great to see you back again and im happy you are trying to bring this forum together.

Okay here is what I think we could do with representative & "extra" teams:

    *Australia A - Montauban
    Barbarians - Stays the same
    *B & I Lions - Stays the same
    Euro All Stars - Toulon
NZ Maori - Stays the same
North All Stars - Western Province
    Pacific Isles - Wellington Lions
South All Stars - Racing Metro
Super 12 All Stars - Auckland
    World All Stars - Canterbury
Jr. All Blacks - Blue Bulls
    Cats - Natal Sharks
Leeds - Stays the same, just gets "activated"

*Australia A and B & I Lions gets swapped around so that Australia A(Montauban) can have a home and away kit and the B & I Lions only have a home kit as they used on the SA tour.

Please tell me what you think of this idea?
  8. Fa'atau82

    Fa'atau82 Guest

Yeah i agree with that, Lions only need one kit really so could easily swap them to B&I Lions.

I think the only thing we need to change is the french teams in the H-Cup. Bourgoin and Castres are not needed this year and are generally crap so we can change them with Brive and Montauban and have Toulon (who are crap as well frankly) and Racing Metro 92.

If we can keep the representative teams as near as we can and add new teams, like we have figured out to do, then it'll be cool. And as i said before, we have the perfect solution for the player issue, because the extra teams are essentially just spin-offs of the S14 teams, and will use the same players.

I think my graphic overlays look great in the game, but i don't know if they are going to be changed. If we are gonna keep them (and i'd like to of course) then i will release the templates and you can make some or i can make some for the new format. Pretty much i have made them all anyway apart from Racing Metro.

Okay so are we gona use my roster for this seeing as this patch is not going to overwrite the S14 teams or what...?
  10. Fa'atau82

    Fa'atau82 Guest

Yeh can do, it just seems silly working on different ones and none of them being amazing or definitive, no offence.
  11. munross

    munross Guest

    Okay no offence taken ;)

Are you happy with these teams being replaced like this?

    *Australia A - Montauban
    Barbarians - Stays the same
    *B & I Lions - Stays the same
    Euro All Stars - Toulon
NZ Maori - Stays the same
North All Stars - Western Province
    Pacific Isles - Wellington Lions
South All Stars - Racing Metro
Super 12 All Stars - Auckland
    World All Stars - Canterbury
Jr. All Blacks - Blue Bulls
    Cats - Natal Sharks
Leeds - Stays the same, just gets "activated"
*Australia A and B & I Lions gets swapped around so that Australia A(Montauban) can have a home and away kit and the B & I Lions only have a home kit as they used on the SA tour.

Please change/update/add to this list so I can start with the roster so long...

    Talofa lava Fa'atau82,

I'm not sure if your hamo, but if you are or not malo uso welcome back!!

There are a few of us from the All Blacks capital Wellington who are keen
to assist with the patch, its just we are just not up to the elite Rugby08 level
of 'modding' as some loyal specialists such as yourself, JvD, Uli and Xusky.

    How can we help???

We are not only Rugby gaming enthusiasts but are also real life Representative
rugby players who have huge aspirations at playing top level club footy (Super14).
We have played more than a few professional players at club level and 7's such as
your uso :D and Hamo International Lome Fa'atau as well as former AB Jerry Collins.

We have many links with Wellington rugby players and know how they play in real
life. I, myself play for Wellington's most prestigious club Petone Rugby featuring recent
All Blacks: Ross Filipo, Neemia Tialata and 'The Godfather' Tana Umaga.

We want to contribute but need to be shown the ropes, if there are tutorials
from you or the other boyz we are more than willing to help. :) :) :)

I agree totally on everyone chipping in!!! A collabortive effort will succeed

    NZ Maori - England Saxons
North All Stars - Western Province
    Pacific Isles - Wellington Lions
South All Stars - Racing Metro
Super 12 All Stars - Auckland

    Castres - Montpellier
*Australia A and B & I Lions gets swapped around so that Australia A(Montauban) can have a home and away kit and the B & I Lions only have a home kit as they used on the SA tour.

And maybe we can "de-activate" Russia and maybe Uruguay/Portugal(or both) so that we can use those teams' players to add into the new teams...?

In my own humble opinion, I think that the Junior All Blacks are more important than the England Saxons, even the Emerging Springboks might be more so..

But all the ideas sound great, I'm a very grateful fan of all your guys' work!
  16. Fa'atau82

    Fa'atau82 Guest

Yeah, we can decide whether we will have certain teams. It's easy to make a mod to let people choose.

@ DK15 - Malo uce! O a mai oe? I will be making tutorials again, i think we just have to find somewhere else but Filefront, it's basically crap now and deletes anything even though you ask for it stay. I will be uploading all kinds of stuff, i'm just glad we have some enthusiasm in the forum. Yeah, it's just a video game, and it's not even a pioneering one, but it's all we have and it's not too bad and it makes us happy obviously because you can see hours and months of work all around this forum!

Let's get this show on the road!

I will work on stuff this week, and upload it as and when. I might make a new thread to see who wants to get involved that isn't a modder and hold them to it!

Why not just switch Leeds with Bristol?

We can but then we might make some Bristol fans unhappy :p .
Leeds just get activated and gets swapped around with Bristol so that Leeds appears in the Europe team selection and Bristol appears in the representative team selection screen, it must be done like this otherwise the game crashes, it seems you can't have more the a certain number of teams in the Europe team group.

In the end Fa'atau will have the last say on which teams are in and which are out...

I'm learning how to make kits, so I will try Aus Super 14, and keep trying until they look gun.
  21. Is there a tutorial anywhere on kit-making? I would be up for making the new Bath kit for 2009/10. It would be quite easy as they've kept the same kit but different sponsor, and as they say, every little helps.
