After contacting a few clubs I got invited to come down and join a local rugby league team. Only problem is I've never played a proper game of league, and I'm 19 years old starting in seniors and I am ~170cm tall and about 60kg. I'm no stranger to contact sport, playing aussie rules for many years and I used to be an apprentice bricklayer until recently so I'm not exactly weak either, but I just have this feeling I'm going to get smashed pretty hard, and I'm also not sure what kind of position I'll be playing other than somewhere in the backs. Any advice on starting out, or anything in general really would be appreciated.

Be sure to wear proper undergear. I've seen more 'balls out' during league play than union...not sure if it's the nature of the tackle, or the shorts.

Just listen and learn.

When you play your first game, just get the ball and go forward - preferably whilst going hard and at the gaps!

With regards to tackling - Practise makes perfect!!!
