Rene Ranger set to leave after all (Montpelier)

Sonny Bill Williams is no where quick enough to be a winger. He played on the wing against a second string Japan team, I wouldn't have him near the wing if it was up to me.

Personally I hope he never returns to New Zealand rugby. The idea a guy can leave and come back when ever he feels like it (when there is an award to be won) is a smack in the face to the guys that stay. Exactly as I felt when he was selected in the first place. But whatever, people clearly think New Zealand rugby is in such a dire situation that we need to buy a mercenary every few years..

That's why people call: "Money Ball Williams" hahahahaha.

I believe that Ranger is in a high level and with more games with the team he can match and even surpass the level of best SBW. But he will go to France, then NZRU have to think about other variants.

But if the transfer fails, Rene can take the place of SBW in the next RWC. I prefer to Ranger before SBW for the reasons you mentioned

Regards

If I were NZRU - I would take the money they've saved up for SBW and use it to pay out Ranger's contract. But they're cash strapped so time for a good 'ol fashioned sausage sizzle at NZRU HQ! :D

Sorry guys but i thought this was a thread about Rene Ranger leaving New Zealand and coming to Montpellier, where did it change to some new All Black selection thread for the next WC.
you say any one abroad cant play for the AB's so as Ranger has signed a contract for Montpellier why do you select him, difficult to understand, you are breaking your own rules!!!!!!!
Just to come back to Conrad's thread Ranger has not a contract with the FFR, he has a contract with Montpellier something entirely different.

No!!!!!!!!! We're not breaking our own rules!!!!!!!! He isn't playing in France yet - and it wasn't confirmed when he was selected and is still trying to get out. His contract hasn't started with Montpellier as he is still under contract with the Blues and NZRU. When he is playing in France he won't be selected for the All Blacks!!!!!!!!!

Now guys i believe this is now a done deal as i said in many previous threads he signed a contact, a contract in France is binding and he will be playing for Montpellier next season after the 4 Nation if he is selected for the AB's
So Mon. TRF nickdnz it is YES and not NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!, obviously your lose and our gain but then all is fair in love and war. (he is actually very excited about coming so all this trying to buy out of his contract was as usual media drivel and forum hype.

Meaining he feels free to play for the June series without worrying about whether or not it is a done deal - not that he will be able to play for the All Blacks once his contract takes effect. It's possible that he may play for the All Blacks during the Rugby Championship if he's not contracted in France during then, however it is unlikely the NZRU and All Blacks will select him if they don't benefit from his development. I never questions whether or not he was signed. My point was he was still contracted by the NZRu until the end of the year - and he will not continue to be selected once he is not contracted by them or plays abroad.

Unfortunately finding one media source (a French one) to justifying saying another is hype is a little irrational. As it is Steve Hansen essentially said that it'll cost him $300,000 NZD to buy out of his contract - so I assume the national coach knows what hes talking about. He may be excited about playing in France (I'm sure anyone would be excited about playing overseas for a lot of money) however that doesn't mean to say he wouldn't rather play in New Zealand for the All Blacks now that he is in the fold.

Either way it's academic as yes he will be going to France.

A response politically correct on all fronts, but if he is not selected for the 4 Nations he will arrive a lot sooner than the the end of October as stated in his contract, but that is in the hands of the AB's selction committee for the moment.
