I'm calm and tbh have given up on a heck of a load of tripe coming from a few NZ supporters over the past few weeks

No worries Maverick, I just read a few posts up and I could see this thread starting to disintegrate a little. It was hard to avoid looking like I was singling you out, but it's more a general call to everyone posting here that I want to get through.

Not pommy bashing but even the UK rugby media refer to Robshaw as 'filling in' until a proper 7 comes along.

Personally, I think you should ease him out now.

I agree he is not the player he once was, but he is still hands down the best 7 in NZ, so what is the logic behind easing him out? There is no replacement better, nor for that matter any where near as good. Sam Cane is good, but whos the next cab off the rank going into 2015? Whoever you say they would be leagues away from McCaw, and that is an argument that doesn't even take into account the experience, captaincy, leadership, and mana he brings to the team.

He will be there come RWC2015 barring injury of course, and he will be the first to captain a team to back to back RWC wins

Cheeky little story about Richie, to show what a nice guy he is.

Last November one of the guys I coach got a call on the Friday afternoon, his mate needrd him to pick up and deliver a couple of drumsticks to a mate who's in town for the weekend. So he agrees and sets off on the most random of odysseys across Paris. About 4 hours later he's finally got these drumsticks is totally p*ssed at his mate for getting him to do this annoying task and storms into this hotel and asks reception to call the bloke in room XXXX.

He's stood there and they say "oh, you can go up" so he jumps in the lift. All the time he's thinking "I recognise that guy, and that guy and that guy", then he realises it's the All Blacks Hotel (it's the night before the French test) and when he finally knocks on the door it's opened by none other than Richie McCaw.

He kind of stutters "er, Trevor asked me to drop these off", and McCaw says thanks and then proceeds to chat to him in the corridor for about 30 minutes about Paris, Living in France and Rugby etc... asks if he's heard of the All Blacks and what not and my mate tells him he plays rugby and has a game tomorrow and that "no one will believe he's just met Richie McCaw".

Anyway he laughs says thanks and heads off to a meeting. Our guy goes home, then about an hour later he gets a text message, by way of his mate, from Richie McCaw saying thanks and with a photo of him stood in the corridor holding the Drumsticks up - basically, so he could prove to his team mates that he'd met him, McCaw'd got his number from their mutual friend and texted him.

It's a daft little story, but that guys was made up for days at having met him and the fact he had his number and sent him a photo etc.... he's not the kind of guy you easily impress either, but little things like that really make a difference.

i'll add to this, i went to high school with Richie and he's quite frankly the nicest bloke your going to meet, vice dux, 1st XV and head boy...you wanted to hate him...but couldn't...until he left otago and went to play for canterbury

I think part of the problem is that Richie has set the bar so high as far as NZ 7's go that it will be tough to find a comparable player.

I think any of Ardie Savea, Todd and Cane are capable. I rated Cane last year but he seems to not be in the same form this year.

Cane has had a couple injuries this year which hasn't helped his cause, last year he more than looked a suitable replacement.

Cane needs to leave the chiefs and be a regular starter somewhere, not good for chiefs fans but good for him rugby wise.

Yeah, exactly, and that really is the point I am making. There are way too many people (this forum and beyond) calling for McCaw to go, but it just makes no sense since in reality as there is no one even close to him.

Cane is an able 7 for the ABs, not brilliant, but capable. Ardie may well be a great player in the future (2+ years away from a legit ABs starting prospect though). Braid is probably the next best 7 in the country, but is clearly not on the ABs radar, Todd is good, but hasn't really stepped up much of late, the rest are not really worth much of a mention in terms of the ABs.

simply type 'Robshaw not a specialist' into google and you'll see plenty of stories justifying his selection or former players saying why he shouldn't be dropped for a specialist.

BTW never said he wasn't a good player, he's not a 7

Most rugby fans will say that Robshaw has grown into the role that Lancaster wants him to do irrespective to wether the press think he's a traditional 7 or not .

Robshaw outshone McCaw in the first test just a few weeks ago

He's become a huge part of what Lancaster wants from the squad and has grown as a player and a captain in the past 2 years .

Dunno about others but I'm more than happy for him to stay we have other pressing matters at the moment like a back line that don't know each other from Adam

I apologise about the idiot remark though . Still a bit ****** off after the third test I think !
