Round One: Chiefs v Brumbies

Not a game to bet on.
Could be a bloody good match here, although the Chiefs will most probably be missing two key players and the Brumbies should be able to pick their best squad.
Still, the Chiefs have shown a lot of heart in the NPC so this could be a bit closer than expected.

BUT then again the Chiefs have Lavea, I say no more.

Should be interesting. Think Chiefs will miss David Hill a lot this year but hopefully will be able to step it up a little and make up for it in other areas. Feels extremely weird to be going to the rugby this early.

Also feels strange to have Lavea lurking out there somewhere ready to destroy years of pride...
Any idea out there about just what the Chiefs backline is going to be?

no mills and no sivi...but damn if you watched npc for the past 2 years and you watched counties then you know you have a gem in yound samoan wing "masaga"...slick mover allright!!..hes like anesi with sivivatus agility..how about that for a combo...also it would be good to see lauaki in full flight action!!!...go chiefs!

Lauki's out for the first couple of games after breaking his wrist in the warm up against the Blues, Messam to cover.

Messam isnt a bad replacement. His perfomance in the NPC had people talking about him in the All Blacks frame right after the RWC.

He's got strength, skills, power and the speed to do well....after all he was the captain of the NZ 7s team.

Lauaki is out of the first 4 rounds so that was a huge blow.

Likely Chiefs lineup.

1. Ben Castle
2. Tom Willis
3. Nathan White
4. Jonno Gibbes [C]
5. Keith Robinson
6. Liam Messam
7. Marty Holah

I have a feeling the Cheifs might win this one but it will be close.... match of the round for me!

It will be a very interesting match, this one. I'd expect the Brumbies to come out on top, but only just.

Team should look like:

1. Nic Henderson
2. Jeremy Paul
3. Guy Sheperdson
4. Al Campbell
5. Mark Chisholm
6. Dan Heenan/Stephen Hoiles
7. George Smith
8. Stephen Hoiles/Jone Tawake

9. George Grean
10. Julian Huxley
11. Mark Gerrard
12. Gene Fairbanks
13. Stirling Mortlock
14. Mark Gerrard
15. Adam Ashley-Cooper

Reserves:
John Ulugia, David Palavi, Adam Wallace-Harrison, Jone Tawake/Julian Salvi, Patrick Phibbs, Christian Lealifaano, Peter Playford.

That's a good team on paper - keep an eye on Playford.

Not sure whether Dan Heenan is injured or not.

Bit more experiance than I figured for the Chiefs... as Lavea's on the bench there's still a chance...

Where the hell is Dan Heenan?? Is he still injured?
[/b]

Yep, still recovering from the same injury... and it looks like Frankie and A.Faingaa are also injured.

The interesting thing about that Brumbies team is that there is no backup scrum half  , they obviously dont plan on Gregan getting injured.

I just noticed that the Chiefs have picked up Latimer, why the hell did the Crusaders let him go?

Yeah, Luke Burgess is on stand-by as 23rd man and he's over there with the squad. He's not on the bench though and anyway a rate Phibbs much higher than Burgess.

@ The Truth
Latimer plays for the Bay of Plenty, so the Chiefs got to pick him first. Last year he was with the Crusaders only because he was picked up in the draft.
