I came across a few articles relating to anecdotal evidence from women's soccer in America. They are basically suggesting that the rubber crumb on a 4g pitch has carcinogens in it and this has caused an increase in the number of players being diagnosed with cancel. Out of 38 34 were goalies. Thought to be due to them diving on the ground more. This could be multiplied many times for rugby.

There is no scientific evidence linking the two. But the rubber crumb used does have multiple carcinogens in it and a lot of places in America have stopped using it.

I have seen this mentioned on a football forum and the pitch has been in use in the UK for a number of years. There as been no cancer cases linked to the use of 3G pitches(all pitches the now are 3G or 3G plus). The only difference between the US and UK pitches could be the source of the rubber crumb and the sand/rubber mix.

The latest i have heard that this will not be an issue in the EU as the carcinogenics are not used in tire manufacturing in the E~U>
