Rugby breakaway league coming. (R360)

Also any contracts signed are reported as " players were offered contracts to sign that would only take effect if the competition was to receive the adequate funding to launch next season"

"If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas"

True but the breakaway keague might accept that for a few years to try and build its success. The RFU can barely afford any reasonable drop in income. It certainly will face major pressure from broadcasters ans sponsors to not deliberately put out a weaker product if other countries are not doing so,
Also reported as players signed if they get funding for next year.

An expression of interest form at best.

I imagine this autumn the RFU will make sure none of the players given a the central contract will be announced a few weeks or months later as joining. That would be quite humiliating for the RFU.

this is the issue that a league with made up teams and culture will have, won't it? No supporters, no cultural knowledge, no reputation... Who is going to rock up to a random stadium in a random country to watch Mercenaries RFC play Generic Animal Warrior Name?
Bang on. Anyone putting money into this should just transfer it to me so I can buy a house and enough 40k minis to fill it.

Golf is completely different though, there are no current gaps in players years to go play another league. You e also got thr difference that in golf people watch the golfers, in rugby we watch the team. So I watch England, saints, B&IL, if saints players move to a different team I don’t start watching that as well.

When Courtney went to the PD2 loads of people didn’t start watching that.

The idea is terrible and won’t work, can’t see it even getting 100 signatures and I bet when they say they’ve got x amount of interested players they are telling a few lies to try and up sell.

Groups like these think that sport is just another creative industry where you can consume it 364 days a year in your room and one day in person. Completely forgetting the fun bit is the communal aspect.

I go to **** tier sporting events cause they are fun, not cause of the amazing athleticism.

Do we really think this is a possibility ? I just read that the Irish players are waiting to see how things transpire before putting pen to paper.
I think it would be the ruination of our sport that we all love.

I think it’s probably going to launch but hopefully not many big names sign up at the first and then it struggles so not many more join.

You can do both. I mentioned this on reddit bit I think the goal will be to make these central events that draw the collective Rugby communities from each locations respective regions. So a New York event would be targeted at every Rugvy player/fan in the eastern half of North America. Same for LA for the western half.

A decent example of this is the NRL foray into the US with its Vegas Round.

And I think they'd actually manage to achieve that. If they get the best players in the world involved that would be a significant draw.

The big issue will be getting people to watch on TV.

Where did you read it? I haven't seen any of the reliables posting it.

Would imagine based on history Irish players are the least likely to leave.
