Rugby breakaway league coming. (R360)

So... as we always said - players approaching retirement, who's international days are over.
Of those, only Ford should still be playing rugby by the time this things actually starts - assuming that it ever does

South Africa unaware of any current Boks signing for R360.

This doesn't feel like LIV to me. When LIV was taking shape, players/LIV were going public announcing they had signed contracts. With R360 it is just vague rumours.

I have family in South Africa and they say that the Springboks are not like any other national team, it is the one thing that unites the nation and has a special place in the nation.

I would be surprised if any high profile current Boks, or any up and coming Boks would ever agree to this, if it meant they could no longer play for the Boks. Especially as they can earn similar money in France and Japan and still be eligible for the Boks.
South Africa’s ban looks like it will only apply if World Rugby doesn’t sanction it. By the way World Rugby were talking I feel like they minded to sanction it and give it their blessing.

Just a barely credible alternative to Pro D2 or a mid tier Japanese club while they talk to their financial advisors for a season. Who'd have thunk.

The guy retired from international rugby because of the time he had to spend away from his family is going to sign for a league that is just a travelling circus.....sure!

I bet the extent of it is gonna be something like he said on podcast that he'd do it if they gave him £100m and now the league is saying HE WANTS TO JOIN

Careful, if you describe it as a travelling circus you might actually tempt him

Yeah, I was surprised to see stories of Springboks signing for this, it just seemed completely unlikely (as has anything that has been spoken about the tournament tbh).

Anyone considering this from SA will be the same tier of SA players that sign for the MLR. They're not getting top tier players, those ones are focused on going to the World Cup and this fictional tournament would apparently clashes with the Rugby Championship fixtures. Just no.

One good thing from this, will surely be the unions having a good look in the mirror about how this great product needs to move forward.

R360 is more likely to have a hologram of Jonah Lomu.

Didn't Marler retire because having only 50% of games at home was too much time away from family - even though many of the away matches weren't far. R360 would mean even more time away. Not criticizing him for retiring for that reason, but it means he's unlikely to sign.

Interesting that Red Bull were not interested in R360, choosing instead to purchase Newcastle Falcons.

Shows me far far far more about R360's future prospects than all the unnamed players who have signed "contracts".

Does it? Red Bull have a history of diversifying their portfolios in the sports they invest in. And with EPCR rules around owning multiple clubs and competing in their structures buying into R360 would be a way of doing just that. Also, if the supposed franchise fee for R360 is £15m as has been suggested then that's considerably less than the amount of debt they have assumed in their purchase of Newcastle.
