Rugby breakaway league coming.

Just for the sake of interest (or "interest" given that it's 3.00am) - just having a look around the neutral Prem clubs' fan forae, to see how much discussion there has been about today's final.
Bristol - none (obviously, club wasn't neutral for the SF)
Exeter - none, no thread for the SF either
Gloucester - Yep, active thread for SF and same thread is still active for the final
Quins - Yep, 4 posts, no discussion. Threads for each SF, I'm only spotting 1 post during play for each SF - neither discussing play
Newcastle - none, thread for one of the SFs, started the following day
Saints - Yep, "active" thread for the SF and same thread is still active for the final - I'm not spotting any discussion of the actual rugby though
Sale - none (obviously, club wasn't neutral for the SF)
Sarries - Yep, thread for SF is still active, I'm only spotting 2 posts during play of the SFs

I don't blame any of them, they're neutrals watching because of a love of the sport, and the competition in which their club plays.
Only Shedweb had any actual discussion of a SF whilst it was in progress.
These are places that people come every day to talk about rugby, their club, the rest of the league and the sport as a whole. These are the places where the couple of hundred most dedicated rugby fans on the planet hang out and talk about club rugby. I'm sure plenty watched the SFs, but they weren't talking about them.

Mate, using obscure web forum as your point of reference in regards to dedication isn't really a solid position in which to base an argument.

If you were to look over of r/rugbyunion you would have seen match threads with commments totaling in the thousands for those games. Actually for most NH games to be honest. And a sub with over 850k members.

Lucky I wasn't basing an argument on it then.

Out of interest, why would I look to somewhere with fans of the involved clubs participating in order to assess the views of neutrals?

Why wouldn't you look to a platform that has over 850k members that runs active match threads full of people who are watching games as neutrals.

A] because I've no interest in Reddit
B] because my entire premise was based on neutrals, which Reddit doesn't pick out from non-neutrals (or are you saying that Reddit had a thread that explicitly exckuded fans of Bath or Leicester from the conversation? - in which case, I retract this point)
C] because my entire premise was based on "normal" matches, not one-offs
D] number of members is utterly irrelevant to the number of active participants

**** reddit in the eye
Surely that's easier to do in the "e" or one of the "d"s? - at least they have holes in them.
Or if it's capitalised, then you'd have to replace the "e" with the "R"

All right big dick, no need to lord it over the rest of us

The r/rugbyunion had match threads for practically every game from most every major competition and a few minor throughout the entirety of the season. Not just one off.

The threads weren't segragated. They included both fans of the teams playing and others who weren't which is fairly easy to determine thanks to the respective national and club flairs attached to each redditor. I find you assertion that there needs to be a singular neutral thread to be able to determine interest. Multiple weekly threads featuring thousands of posts seems a far better measure.

Reddit is hugely relevant to this conversation. It has the largest active online Rugby community. You're basing your thesis on fan engagement via forums but using fairly obscure forums to do so. It's flawed in my opinion. I can see how you could that conclusion as I'm or have been a member of a number of Rugby forums with a small number of active posters. But as I've already alluded to using them as the basis of your thesis is flawed.

I wonder how much neutral interest is driven by the teams in the final as well. Tigers being a boring team might not have drummed up as much neutral Interest that others. An imagine the Exeter finals getting a lot of neutral support with Exeter at the time being a shiny new top end toy.

Exeter weren't exactly an exciting team at the time, but I see your point.

I meant exciting as they were a new commodity. Tigers been there and done it quite a few times and with their play style might not be as an exciting prospect.

Although I watch the final every year, I used to go down every year as well but the ticket prices and the endless Sarries finals made me stop.

I understand - particularly the Sarries bit!
I meant there wasn't a lot to pick between 2020 Chiefs with the endless pick and goes and mauls, compared to some of Tigers' tactics back in the day. Looking back a bit the league has had quite a change in style.

Did you spot that but when I pointed out that this isn't true when you first asserted it?
It's still not true this time either.

As for the rest - I've already addressed why I didn't use Reddit - you're not convince me that I'm wrong by showing me that I'm right.
