We've known for ages that our forward pack is... so-so at best. Funnily enough, I actually thought big Rodney Ah You had a good game (bearing in mind expectations). Put himself about very well and was solid in the scrum against both McGrath and Healy apart from once. Black was poor in the loose (in the scrum, the front row functioned well - credit Black, Best & Aaron Dundon for that too), Best couldn't throw, Herring was no better. O'Connor didn't show much, Henderson played in flashes. Chris Henry is well down the slippery slope to retirement and Deysel was off injured. As usual (and as it was for most of last season) it was left to Sean Reidy to try and carry the pack alone. He's good, very good, all the smarts, but not the biggest or quickest and can only do so much. The fact Robbie Diack is now one of our longest serving players ever in time and caps says it all. He may be financially successful off the pitch with his cafes etc, but on pitch, as a professional rugby footballer, the man is a loser. He'll never win you anything. The ultimate "jersey filler". He should have been sent on his way 5 years ago and a youngster with real hunger (not punching your ticket "hunger") given a chance - at least they'd have potential to get better.
