Rugby star Barkley held in fracas
England and Bath rugby player Olly Barkley was arrested by police using CS spray after a fight in which a man suffered a broken jaw.
Mr Barkley was detained by Devon and Cornwall Police in Newquay on Sunday.
The Bath fly-half, 24, who has won 16 caps for England, has been released on police bail with two other men pending further inquiries.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the fight happened in the resort's Oakleigh Terrace at about 0145 BST on Sunday.
"Three men were arrested on suspicion of causing an affray and bailed back to Newquay police station on August 23," said a force spokesman.
Head injuries
"CS spray was deployed in order to effect the arrests," he added.
The others arrested were a 19-year-old student from Cardiff and a 23-year-old man from Wadebridge.
The victim suffered head and facial injuries, including a fractured jaw, and was treated for his injuries at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, in Treliske, Truro.
Police said they were investigating the "assault and public order incident".
A statement issued by Bath Rugby on Thursday said: "Bath Rugby understands that Olly Barkley was present at an incident which took place in Newquay last weekend and to which the police were called.
"He attended Newquay police station and made a statement.
"Olly has not been charged with any offence relating to this incident."
Mr Barkley, who was brought up in Wadebridge, Cornwall, made his England debut in 2001 and played in the two most recent Tests in Australia in June.
He is currently the second highest points scorer in Bath Rugby history.
