[RWC2019][Pool B] Round 3 - England vs. Argentina (05/10/2019)

Tough on JJ. Don't think it's a reflection on his ability though, Slade and Nowell simply need game time, otherwise they might as well not be there at all. It's great to think that we have enough strength in depth to rest such a quality player.

Pretty much as expected. Unless Wilson is injured leaving him out is bonkers as in my eyes he's the only realistic 8 cover we have in Japan. Bench loaded with injury come backs isn't ideal but no point taking them if they weren't going to play.

From the Guardian...

no Mark Wilson in the matchday 23. Like Slade, Wilson established himself as a key figure during the Six Nations but he too has been hampered by an untimely knee injury.

Argentina: Boffelli; Moroni, Orlando, De La Fuente, Carreras; Urdapilleta, Cubelli; Chaparro, Montoya, Figallo, Pagadizabal, Lavanini, Matera, Kremer, Desio

Replacements: Creevy, Vivas, Medrano, Alemanno, Lezana, Ezcurra, Mensa, Delguy

Nice to see the The Grauniad is proudly speaking the Queen's English to perfection :D.

So what does everyone think of the Argentine arrogance? "Boring" which will play into their hands and its going to be a "war" ... first one is miles off base and can't be taken seriously, the second I've seen similar comments punished in other sports like soccer, and given the history of Britain and Argentina it's in very poor taste at absolute best.

This game is gonna be a cracker!
First big test for england, argentina will play to stay alive in this pool.
England win would be safer for France but still I'll be behind Argentina ;)

He thinks playing at Worcester gives him the inside track? He left four years ago, lol

Also you wouldn't have thought the Argentinians would wanna bring up war against the English...

I read bits and pieces of the interview in spanish media and didnt get the arrogance angle to be honest. Confidence before a game, sure, but no disrespect intended imo.
We all want to win and all but we know we are not favorites, Creevy included. The worcester part is nonsense, agreed.

I can see that being an unecessary comment from Creevy but i dont get your argument.
We've beaten the English in armed conflicts more times than they have beat us, which is a fact most English seem to be unaware of.

As part of the Spanish empire, maybe, but not since independence.

I make it 2-1 in our favour....

Stop using England in this regard to refer to Britain, also the amount of armed conflicts Britain has been involved in well....you can't expect our history to include everything we've ever been involved with....and the one victory the Argentine confederation has over us doesn't even make our very long wikipedia page. So it was a minor conflict at best...

Why? Wasn't it clear from my post that i think Creevy's choice of words was, not particularly smart, to say the least?

I for one dont have an iota of anymosity towards the english, at least not more than i have towards any other nation we face in a sports competition.

EDIT: this was for Bushy, but i now see what u mean.

English Armed forces tried to invade Buenos Aires, got their arses handed back to them. Twice.
Sugarcoat it the way you want.

The "maybe" was a nice touch thou.

By the Spanish empire....in the early 1800s.

If we're being technical we did take control of Buenos Aires for over a month, and killed more Spaniards than British were killed.
Great success!

Look if you idiots want to vote for Brexit as well you can rightly be lumped in. So can the Scots for not voting independence. I'll the Irish have a vote to escape.
Man I wish I though of that....it is however true.
