Saracens lock Hayden Smith is hoping for a switch to the NFL following workouts with the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints.

From NFL (American Football) ---> Rugby

From Rugby ---> American Football

The Bleacher Report did a cool thing ... naming a NFL Rugby XV ... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/419200-just-imagine-the-all-nfl-rugby-team

I was thinking what positions can he realistically play (and start if good enough ofc). He aint big enough for Defensive line.. same for Offensive line tbh mabey TE at a push but he'd have to get used to blocking big heavy guys fast along with route running and catching.. Not fast enough for WR or CB Or really RB. So just leaves him with FB, ILB/OLB or Safety..

He had a trial ... apparently a successful one as a TE.

Clearly there's something special happening in New Orleans.

New Orleans already have Jimmy Graham, one of the best TE in the NFL, not a bad player to learn from. Good luck to em, The Big Easy is better than playing on Watford

Thought that tank of a 2nd row at Saints Mite played a bit of American Football. Not NFL obviously

Why Hayden Smith though. He isn't the most dynamic or physical guy. Strange if you ask me.
I wonder if any NFL teams will be chasing after George North after yesterdays game. He could make a good tight end.

Presumably it's him chasing them rather than the other way round.

He grew up in the USA as well, so has had exposure there - maybe when Saracens went to the USA to train with whichever team (Dolphins) he realised he wanted to switch and got on to his agent.

Imo North would be a better WR than a TE, just look at Julio Jones (iirc on name for the falcons) North has the same sort of build as him

Ah, my mistake - thought he'd moved to the USA for highschool not university ("college").

Moved apparently confirmed. Signed with the New York Jets.

Jets definitely need a TE; though he might not find the same game time with the Saints, ebhind Graham. I wonder how a good blocker he can be?

Out of the list from Rugby -> NFL converts, Ngata has to be the best. And probably David Dixon next - the dude anchored that Vikings O-Line for years!

Wow. That's a fast forty for a guy his size!

Too bad he has Sanchez throwing at his feet; and Tebow throwing to the stands to make him of any use.

Let's hope he has good media skills to handle the QB-circus that will be going on next season...
