Rumour has it that Man Utd's Paul Scholes has been contacted by Steve McLaren about returning from international retirement. Scholes, who retired after the 2004 European championships, still has a few years left in the tank at 31, but does the already crowded England midfield really need any more high profile competition? What linneups could be used?

Cole-Gerrard-Scholes-Lennon/Beckham?

Cole-Lampard-Scholes-Lennon/Beckham?

------------Scholes?

Thoughts?

Please God no. He was shite for 2 years before he had the decency to retire.

He's still better than Lampard, and he CAN play alongside Gerrard without getting under each others feet.

I'd rather play Hargreaves and let Gerrard run wild. Gerrard is better now than Scholes ever was.
