Scottish Rugby chief confirms interest in Premiership club

The moment you realise the SRU have more ambition for the English game than the RFU.

Nah, won't happen

They're clubs not franchises, banging a load of lower tier Scotland players into Worcester isn't going to endear them to the locals

Hasn't this news been circulating since they failed to buy London Scottish?

There's absolutley no way PRL will allow them; and no way RFU would allow them to play on English soil.

It's politics - be seen to be trying something, to appease fans; but without the downside of having to pay any money, or actually carry through with anything.
Added benefit - they get to blame the English when they get told to follow Altrad to Fuckoffsville.

Why can't they buy London Scottish, get them to play in the Pro14 at new Wimbledon Stadium.
I still think the Italians would be better off in a the French Top14 as it would reduce costs for everyone.
As for London Scottish, they would be stupid not to take SRU money, with a move to a league that has more money than RFU Championship, regular games against Scottish sides.
From the Pro14 and SRU the move into London will bring a lot of extra revenue itself.

London is in England; and comes under the auspices of the RFU

Hasn't the precedent for this already been set by allowing the Harlequins/New Zealand link-up?

Dodson is a strange one. A hard nosed businessman without a shred of sentiment. Bizarre quote about refusing to accept they operate in a country of 5 million which puts into context the zeal with which he pursues players raised by other unions. But I do think overall he is highly competent and his ideas are usually sensible.

In terms of a stake in an English club he could argue that if this was permitted then the players the SRU poach would at least still stay in the AP. But yes, I'd imagine the SRU are the last organisation the English union would want to do a favour for.

Worth noting that the Scottish made a lot of noise about expanding into the Us previously and here Dodson is essentially saying that there are no firm plans there in the short term. So just because he says he wants to get involved in England is no indicator that there is any remotely willing partner.

Probably because London Scottish can't trust the SRU as the latter totally screwed over the former last year after doing a deal to supply players and the like then pulling out with weeks to go before the start of this season leaving LS with financial issues and at least 8 players short of a full squad. The only reason LS made it through was due to the implosion up north at Rotherham.

Given what unfolded I can't imagine any clubs would be interested in the slightest.

Shame about the London Scottish problem, as surely Edinburgh and Glasgow players from academies would get better standard in Championship than in Scottish club rugby.
Also would benefit Scottish with quality players to boost them up league.

On the talk of the London Exiles, would London Irish think of moving to Pro14 as money would be better than championship.

They still wouldn't be allowed to... unless they leave England

Why on earth would they allow this to happen, especially with the current England situation. We need to be bringing more English players through the system and giving them premiership experience not giving Scotland the opportunity to build strength in depth, but great for Scotland to try this. At least they are forward thinking.

Exactlily why the SRU were stupid in letting London Scottish go. They would have given them a great chance to scout English based players with Scottish qualification.
