The rugby club I play for has agreed to host a 7s festival next year. This gives me and a couple of helpers plenty of time to plan, but im hoping the rugby community on here would be willing to lend a hanc in the way of ideas.
So really the question is.... have you attended or played in a locally organised sevens festival and if youhave what was good about and what wasnt so good.
Any and all advice is appreciated.

You will need plenty of beer plus plenty of outlets to sell it. No good having a 7s tournament and expecting old Dave behind the club house bar to serve everyone. Have some barrels placed at strategic locations so everyone stays lubricated.

Thanks for the replies guys. We have a fairly big bar in the club house and access to an outdoor bar. The staff are used to dealing with large crowds so hopefully this wont be an issue.
Working on the volunteers as we speak. Have a small organising group and will recruit helpers for the festival closer to the time.
Any other suggestions?

A decent car park, you are going to get far more cars/minibusses than you normally do, try to get your "helpers" to share a car to ground to help reduce the jam. Encourage the "home team" to park away from the ground and walk in a few mins...it will help your guests
Make sure you have plenty of burgers/bacon/buns whatever and have a bbq tent you will make a shed load of money for club funds
Try to get ST Johns Ambulance on board with a meat wagon ready near the pitches with a good path out, as with loads of matches you are tempting fate not having them there should someone be unlucky enough to break something
Plenty of bin bags (heavy duty), and some poor bugger to collect them up and store them before they overflow
Loads of throw away pint mugs!
Shelter from the sun/rain...get pitching the gazebo's
A decent PA system, and someone on the mike who does not like the sound of his voice, is clear, and who does not get drunk!
decent weather....get your order in early
