Shortlist for Player of the Tournament released

Got to be O'Connell or AWJ, the only two on the list not to have a single bad game.

Yeah POC for me too. Winning 6N's back to back as captain is worthy of recognition.

By all accounts he drags the team forward. Certainly did in the second half against Scotland.

Surprised not to see Warbs on that list. He was immense.

POC or AWJ for me as well.
The shortlisting methodology just... isn't good. They calculated each player's worth statistically, weighting the "most important" actions.

I suspect context of an action wasn't accounted for (e.g. a missed tackle marked negatively, even if it was a "good missed tackle"). There's also a question over the arbitrariness of scoring each action. (e.g. what is a try worth compared to a turnover?) Then there's the penalising of players positionally. (Front rowers never show nicely in the stats compared to others, whereas fullbacks show very nicely.) And many more problems.

I suppose it is an improvement on the shortlist being made up of all the man of the match winners though. I just don't understand why they don't decide the shortlist by panel.

POC by a stretch I'd say. JJ and AWJ also in with a shout.

Glad Biggar made the cut as he was excellent and worthy of a nomination, but I'm surprised at the Warbs omission.
