So the most bullshit of all awards in any field of anything are once again upon us as the BBC congratulate themselves for broadcasting athletics and soccer highlights.

This year the nominations range from
The deserving: Lee Westwood
The Champions: David Haye & Phil Taylor
The "done nothing this year": Greme Swann
The "Who the **** are you": AP McCoy
and a load of athletics, erm, athleicers who the BBC show on telly.

Remember when Jenson Button won the F1 World Championship last year yet it was given to Ryan Giggs, despite the fact he achieved nothing all year? Yeah, bullshit awards.

That's why I'm forgetting Westwood, Haye & Taylor and instead putting my hard earned [strike]on a bonfire[/strike] on Jessica Ennis.

The Full rundown of the BBCs self-congratulatory hit parade can be found here

Or, if you can't be bothered with all of that:
Mark Cavendish
Tom Daley
Jessica Ennis
David Haye
AP McCoy
Graeme McDowell
Graeme Swann
Phil Taylor
Lee Westwood
Amy Williams

Other awards include:
- Team of the Year (Bullitts tip: Chelsea)

- Coach of the Year (Bullitts tip: This one)

- Overseas Personality (Bullitts tip: Sepp Blatter)

- Young Personality (Bullitts tip: any forgettable 16-18 year old Athleticer or Soccerer)

- Helen Rollason Award (Bullitts tip: Nobody cares)

- Unsung Hero Award (Bullitts tip: Paul Scholes or a Tenniser)

- Lifetime Achievement (Bullitts tip: Sue Barker)

Taylor deserves it but won't because he on sky. Westwood has had a great year but for some reason it hurts to say but I'm thinking David Haye will be the man

It's a crying shame that Phil Taylor has never won the award but he doesn't play a sexy sport. He's done so much for the game of darts.

I hope David Haye doesn't get it because he's an arrogant w@nker but he's world heavyweight boxing champ which can't be sniffed at.

Graeme McDowell is a great bet having become the first European to win the US Open for 40 years, the first UK golfer to win a major for 11 years and won the decisive point in the Ryder Cup. On top of that he's up to world number 7, shared the European Tour golfer of the year award with Martin Kaymer and just last week won his 4th ***le of the season, the Chevron World Challenge, pipping Tiger Woods on the last day.

How did I miss G-Macs name on list. It is a disgrace if he doesn't receive this and Snoop I'm with you on Taylor issue but think main reason is he plays on Skys PDC circuit as oppossed to BBCs worldclass BDO.

Peh, David Haye is barely a world champion. Until he beats a Klitscho he's got nothing but a paper ***le.

Agreed.
I really really dislike David Haye.
I love the line from the Klitscho brother who isn't the current champion, he said something along the lines of "This is a challenge to David Haye. I want to fight him before he fights my brother, because when my brother fights him....he will kill him"

Did he fight Valuev before the '09 sports personality? If so, he shouldn't be on this list, as the fight against Harrison was hardly worthy of a nomination

AP McCoy for me or Phil Taylor both have constantly been great in their fields and about time they get the credit for their work.

Just to add to the theme about David Haye - I also think he's a knob.

I might start a Twitter campaign for Phil Taylor to win.

I don't understand why people have such a bug up their arse about Haye. (As boxers go) I've always got the impression he's quite switched on and civilised. Especially when compared to utter the fuckwits like like Hatton, Harrisson & Mayweather.

Personally I would give it to Lee Westwood... the current Number 1 golfer in the World...

Team of the year... Could go to the Ryder Cup Winning Squad...

A wonderful annual British institution.

Shame it's become desperately tacky recently with the public voting system that allows the Great British Public to do what they do best and choose wrongly. Zara Phillips and Ryan Giggs spring to mind. And the fact that the producers try to make everything seem really epic.

Nonetheless, I always watched and am always moved.

As for the shortlist:

Mark Cavendish - like throwing in a cricketer because he bowls quicker than anyone else. Hasn't won anything, why is he on the list?

Jessica Ennis - deserved to win it last year. Being World Champion is heptathlon means you're the finest female all-round athlete in the world. Some achievement. Still, European Gold isn't the same and although she's done nothing wrong, next year or 2012 should be her time.

Graeme Swann - classy bowler, achieved a lot this year but I wouldn't say he's got the Flintoff factor just yet.

Lee Westwood - sensational year, but still never won a major. He'll deserve to win it if he ever does.

Graham McDowell - classy golfer, would have been my pick with a major and Ryder Cup victory to his name.

Phil Taylor - clearly an outstanding and consistent 'athlete'. However, darts isn't an important enough sport.

Amy Williams - scrubs up very nicely. Also, an outstanding achievement to come from the UK and be good at a mountain sport. Good outsider.

David Haye - some of you hate him, I think he's great. This year though, he's not beaten anyone worthwhile. Amir Khan would have been a more deserving boxer on the list.

Tom Daley - something about him that grates, but you can't deny he deserves his place on the list and has done well at such a young age.

AP McCoy - won it, more of a lifetime achievement award though. Being handicapped, the National's not really that important a race - and he hasn't won the most recent Cheltenham Gold Cup, King George VI Chase or the Hennessy Gold Cup either - which are the highest prestige races in the calendar.

Cavendish won the Vuelta a Espana this year and came second in the TdF (winning 5 stages - probably would have won the whole thing if he hadnt crashed out of stage 1)

Strange choice.

My top 3 were:

1. G-Mac - Even the Americans think he has been the best player this year
2. Phil Taylor - Deserved this for his trophies and let's not forget his 2 9Dart finishes in match vs Wade in League final.
3. Westwood/McCoy - Can't decide as both had case's

No. He came 154th, out of 171 riders. He wasn't even the best British rider.

What he did come second in is the 'points classification' which awards you points based on your performances in each stage, and thus aids specialist sprinters who go all out on the shorter flatter stages. But the fact that he couldn't even win this ranking means he wasn't even the best sprinter...

And no one cares about the tour of spain.

EDIT: which sigur ros song did they use? all i remember is non-stop chart drivel, a tiny bit of chase & status for the cricket, and a song by the cinematic orchestra that i can't remember the name of...
