Sri Lanka in New Zealand

What does everybody make of the Murali run out? I think Martin / McCullum all did the right thing. If you watch it McCullum looks at the ump and he signalled that the ball was live, stumps come off and he is given out.

Murali was a fool and it was a very stupid move by him.

i am sure he has done that before, its just stupid. they congratulated sangakara on the 100 and you could hear this yelling and a yeah woohoo from the kiwis and they were all walking off, pretty funny if you ask me. murili is a gimp i agree :D

I was reading somewhere that something similar happend in the icc champions trophy and sangakara called astle back into his crease after celeberating his 100. murili was just stupid really as the ball was still live.

yeah i read that on stuff somewhere.

aparently new zealand have done that before against zimbabwe lol

Yup the run-out was perfectly fair in in the rules of the game, but I for one was quite frankly a bit disappointed by it- all`s fair in love and war, but to me it just wasn`t quite in the spirit of the game.

As the saying goes, it`s just not cricket.

it was exactly cricket!!

ok the ball is being throwin in. you are beside the stumps the guy goes out of his crease you take the bails off. its what i would have done. i wouldnt have even thought "oh yeah he has gone to congratulate his mate" heat of the moment take the bails off, he is out.

All true, but still- it`s not as if the match was heading towards a major finale anyway, NZ were extremely comfortably ahead anyway. OK so it happened in the heat of the moment- but the captain still has the right to withdraw the appeal, which wasn`t done.

I know this sort of incident does actually happen, but I would always prefer to keep within what is IMO the spirit of the game- no run was attempted, ok so it was stupid and absent-minded to leave the crease to congratulate his teammate, but wasn`t this also something that just happened in the heat of the moment?

the whole thing was heat of the moment. i say just leave it be its done. cant do anything about it now :)

Well back to the action today, Sri Lanka have won the toss and again have decided to bat despite Flemming saying he would have had a bowl.

Martin to Jayasuriya, OUT, gone! Good, fullish ball angled across him from off stump, draws him forward and he just pokes at that and gets a thick edge through to Fleming at second slip, and thats an early breakthrough for New Zealand ST Jayasuriya c Fleming b Martin 0 (3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

7.3 Martin to Tharanga, OUT, got 'em! What a ball! Pitches full on a good length on off stump, lands and shapes away, Tharanga stands and tamely defends, the ball swishes by and nibbles the outside edge of the bat and McCullum does the taking, a loud appeal and he's given, Martin strikes again! WU Tharanga c McCullum b Martin 7 (23b 1x4 0x6) SR: 30.43

End of over 10 (5 runs) - Sri Lanka 41/3
CS Martin 5-1-15-3
KC Sangakkara 31* (32b 3x4 1x6) SE Bond 5-1-25-0
9.6 Martin to DPMD Jayawardene, OUT, cleaned him up! Poor shot! Lands on a good length outside off stump and comes back in, surprises him, and all he can do is push the bat down on it in a hurry, and ends up chopping it back onto the base of off stump, not a good shot there but Martin's undone him, and he has three in no time, Sri Lanka in trouble! DPMD Jayawardene b Martin 0 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

on the basis of this i would have had a bowl 2.

sorry i just copied and pasted it.

Sure you want to bowl last because you have the best spinner in the world. but surly you want to have a good chance of putting the other team on the back foot first? if you bowl them out and bat well then the spinner comes into it in the third innings surly.

poor decision agin by the captain imo

current score 46/3

Sangakara 50 off 54 balls!!!!

74/3

17.5 Oram to Sangakkara, no run, Angled across, Sangakkara just plays inside the line of that one. Actually let that one go through. You get the idea right... one of those where the batsmen makes it appear as if he has played it but actually he has let it go through.

Bond is back. I wonder whether he liked Casino Royal.[/b]

what is with this comentator on cricinf??? not fu nny at all

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/nzvsl/engi...tch/251486.html

Oram has pulled a hamstring and wont bowl for the rest of the DAY. thats all i have heard

33.2 Vettori to Silva, SIX, tossed up on off stump, down the track shimmies Silva, not to the pitch but uses the bottom hand to cleanly smack that over mid-on, one bounce and over the ropes, shot! [/b]

one bounce over the ropes? but its a SIX!!!? stupid comentators

just like bill lawry "right off the meat of the bat" argh he said it all the time last night, i have only ever noticed after the 12th man

Blistering start from NZ in the Twenty20 international at Wellington, McCullum and Flemming taking the Sri Lankan openers to town big time with an 80 partnership but fell off a bit once the two of them were out and what looked like being a score of 200 was brought back to only 162.

Rained off in Wellington but Sri Lanka finish up winners under the D/L method thanks to the fastest Twenty20 half century from Jayasurya.

Just hope the weather's better on Stephen's day.

yeah dam rain ruined it all. was shaping up nicely as well. blackcaps lost their way after losing fleming and mcCullum at the top. some handy runs from a few guys like franklin astle but then nothing much from the guys down the lower order.
I think an experinced guy like mcCullum was missed down the bottom and too many new guys were leff with the job of bringing nz home with a big score. just needed someone with a cool head to steady the ship as most of the guys down the lower order were panicking a bit and in the end nz ended up with a lower score than the should have goten.

oh well roll on the next one on the 26th. was good to see the blackcaps in action again and a sample of what is too come this summer

Daniel Vettori will skipper the ODI side for the first 2 matches of the series as Stephen Flemming is being rested because he has a slight elbow strain.

Bit of rotation going on with Shane Bond also missing out.

first game today at 1030 local time in napier.

hopefully the day is a good one, weather wise. and hopefully slinger malinga will forget that he has a good weapon in a yorker that no1 can see.

ah so you are 13 hours ahead in NZ then, that settles that Christmas Day argument then, good thing my sister didn't make that call then.

Anyway first wicket fallen in Napier, McCullum gone lbw to Vaas, NZ 19-1 in the 5th over
