Hi . The statistics posted on Reunion last night re penalties conceeded at home versus away should have been averaged. As the Crusaders have 3 more home games versus 1 away game the big difference between penalties conceeded away versus at home will be more balanced by the end of the season.

I really enjoy the show but I was disappointed because of the amateurism when it comes to non-NZ teams.

I know you can make a mistake, but Tiaan Viljoen? Come on. And Johann Sadie mentioned as one of the Sharks departures? Who is preparing those lists?

In episode 2 TJ is messing things up. He talks about Lions-center Andries Strauss, while he plays for the Cheetahs... It's sad.

A week later they were talking about Sian Ebersohn being tackled by Francois Hougaard while it was Robert Ebersohn. What makes it worse is that his brother is Sias, not Sian ;)

A little more effort would be nice when preparing things and making lists.

True.

But I understand it when watching something with SA commentators butchering NZ Pacific island and Maori names. And the racist undertones. ;) :p

Call it even. :)

Seriously though, I don't watch reunion. I think TJ is a bit annoying. A more entertaining host with be Dobbo.

Welsh grandparents maybe? Any good? Can we poach him?!!

In relation to broadcast mistakes, it doesn't really help in the southern hemisphere when each country doesn't give two shits about any rugby that isn't their own.

Oh are you referring to the Lelia "Faking a concussion" Masaga incident where he used a no arms tackle?

Law 10 Foul Play
(e) Dangerous tackling. A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Sanction: Penalty kick
A player must not tackle (or try to tackle) an opponent above the line of the shoulders even
if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders. A tackle around the opponent’s neck or head is dangerous play.
Sanction: Penalty kick
Masaga tackled dangerously then pulled a fake dazed and confused move.

Bobby Skinstadt is **** IMO. Just as **** as Justin Marshalls knowledge about the laws.

The fourth error in the laws he has made in two weekends.

I think some of us here on TRF got a better understanding and more interesting perspectives on Rugby then some of those guys that talk on there anyway.:)

I use to watch it but didnt like it. Rather watch NRLs Footy Show.

When I want to talk Rugby, I do it on here. When Im on the beers Im talking about MY Rugby game

They were talking about the new Laws being trialled, and didn't see the difference between the current quick throw in Law and the one being trialled.

Out of Richard Loe, Jon Preston and TJ, I would have expected at least ONE of them to realise that the place where the ball crosses the plane of touch is not always the "line-of-touch".

South Africans?? Well Australians have been butchering PI and Maori names for years, and what they can't butcher, they steal and rewrite history making it/them their own...

Pavlova
Split Enz
Crowded House
Lord Rutherford
Sir Edmund Hillary
Phar Lap
Weetbix
The Electric Fence
Russell Crowe... actually, on second thoughts, they can have him!!!
Dragon
John Bjelke-Peterson.. they can have him too!!!
John Clarke (Fred Dagg)
Robbie "Dingo" Deans

I highly agree with you. I've made it known on numerous threads that I dislike Tony Johnson for the simple fact that he get's something confused/wrong all the time.. I can't think of it right now, but he said something similar to what you explained just last night.

It's appalling, and it sucks that he still remains the host, I say get rid of him... He says things like, The Cheetahs did well to defeat the Cheetahs in Perth last night..

Even when he's commentating he's really bad at getting players names mixed up. Just don't like the guy at all..

And yes, the rest of the panel, half the time they don't know what they're talking about. They showed the end of the RWC final last night and Richard Loe said, "Well the All Blacks got away with one there because Richie McCaw put's his hands on the ball and that means it's out"... No, Richard Loe, you're wrong, the ball is out when it leaves the ruck you bafoon!...

Ok rant over!.

Do not want to go off topic but look at this Mega Fail

There are tons of people out there who don't get this law change for some reason. I've attempted to explain in video form to help the cause. That way I don't need to keep explaining it over and over.

What utter Twoddle! Racist undertones?? Do you realise that South Africa is probably the most race sensitive country in the world right now? If a white commentator made a remark that could, even in the slightest way, be construed as racist, he would be fired about 2.3 seconds later and would appear in court on Monday morning!

With regard to the butchering of names, I believe the original poster was referring more to the completely wrong name being used (Sias / Sian / Robert is not a pronunciation problem!). Accent and the mispronunciation of unfamiliar names are understandable.

I think that comment was referencing the "coconut tackle" incident a month or so ago, which was more ignorence than racism.

I think people are being very harsh on Tony Johnson. At first his voice used to annoy me, but usually I find he talks a lot of sense. First week I've missed ReUnion all year, so can't comment on any specific issue, however I will say that getting the wrong name every now and then isn't the worst thing in the world. Total Rugby is an international rugby show which is heavily edited before it's released and yet I've noticed quite a few mistakes on that show. Because ReUnion is live, mistakes are bound to happen.

If anyone has has the mispleasure or watching Deaker on sport or RugbyCentre you realise how much better TJ is. Just finished watching RugbyCentre hoasted by Ian Jones and Melodie Robinson, and they'd ask the guests Cory Jane and Graham Henry something and then they'd imediately forget what they said. It was shocking. For example they asked Daniel Carter from an interview who his biggest influences were, and he said his father, Graham Bichop and Andrew Mehrtens. When it ended Jones said "We know that Carter's heroes were Justin Marshall"...? Which Melodie followed up with "Cory Jane, we know your father died before your first test" when in actual fact he just finished telling the story of how his grandfather died. It's just a shambles of a show and a reason why you don't give ex-rugby players broadcasting positions when they're talentless.

In general I find Tony Johnson's stuff pretty good. It's obviously slanted towards New Zealand viewers interests and I think all countries are guilty of getting other players names wrong, however it's always more noticable when it's someone else's country. Usually ReUnion is well researched and I'd take Tony Johnson and Grant Nisbett over Justin Marshall anyday of the week. At least they've got where they were on their ability to call a game rather than the career they had playing it.
