Wow! I mean you have obviously really thought this through haven't you? It is a small problem that there is a bloody great big hole in your argument. Let's take Michael Essien for example - he is Ghanian and obviously enjoys representing his country. Now Ghana is a poor country compared to most of Europe and as such the resources that the Ghana FA has access to is very limited. Now if the Ghana FA thought for a single second that Essien might get injured during service for his country and that they would have to pay damages in the forms of wages to his club I doubt that they could risk selecting him. And as for taking out insurance on all of their players? Pffttt - way too expensive for a lot of countries. The solution to this is simple - if you are a chairman of a football club and do not want to lose players when they choose to play for their country then simply don't recruit internationals. FIFA has, and quite rightfully in my opinion, has decided that international football is very important and they recognise that a lot of nations with talented players do not have the resources to incur the kind of litigation that you are talking about. And have decided that the clubs - especially the rich European clubs can shoulder the financial risk and expense. I believe that this is the right way to do it also. And it is a small price to pay for the privilege of having top-quality international players playing for your club. [/QUOTE]
