With this being some of the best years for the Cornish Pirates they are now strong contenders to go up to the premiership this season. Currently leading the Championship, having had a good start to the season. However the biggest issue for the Pirates is the Stadium, currently the Mennaye Field, in Penzance, would never meet the entry criteria for the premiership, so some of you may be aware that there has been a big campaign based in the Kernow to get a Stadium for Cornwall, this wouldn't just be for the number one rugby outfit in Cornwall it would be for the Truro Town FC, who are also in desperate need of these facilities.
Yesterday however was a huge day for the Campaign, with the application for outline planning permission for a 'Stadium for Cornwall' was approved at County Hall, Truro, today when, with a recorded vote, council members voted 14 - 4 in favour. This means that strategically this is the right thing to do for Cornwall, which is a great step for the Pirates, however there is still a long way to go to get the Stadium built.
In the short term, The pirates have approached Plymouth Argyle, regarding the use of their stadium, Home Park, if they get promoted into the Premiership and the Stadium for Cornwall is not ready, however this will need to go through the following loopholes;

- The stadium proceeds to construction
- The Pirates achieving promotion to the Aviva Premiership
- The approval of Home Park by rugby’s Professional Game Board as an acceptable temporary stadium
- Recognition by the PGB that Argyle’s Football League fixtures will take primacy
- Commercial agreement being reached by Argyle and the Pirates
