Toulon have signed former Australia flanker George Smith for the 2010/11 season.

The 29-year-old, Australia's most-capped forward and the fifth most-capped player in international rugby union with 110 appearances, joins an influx of new signings at the Top 14 club.

Having played in two World Cups, Smith announced his international retirement in February and stated his desire for "a new experience with a foreign club" after 120 Super Rugby appearances for the Brumbies, in which he scored 21 tries.

I was expecting that, tbh
He's obviously moved north for the $$$, and Toulon seem to be the club that splash out the most atm

If they don't win the top 14 and Heinekin Cup 2010/11 then I'll be amazed. With a back row of Smith, Lobbe and Niekerk, Heyman up front and talent like Wilko and Williams in the back they should be hard pressed not to loose.

****, only 29! Seems like he's been around forever. Smith certainly deserves his spell in French rugby to earn a bit of dosh, he's worked hard for years and years.

Yeah he is only 29. If he stayed in Australia and got more national caps, he could have broken Gregan's record easily.
