Hi all, took a tackle in the ribs training on Monday and now have sore ribs (9&10 false ribs). Discomfort when going from lying to stand. Able to take very deep breaths with minimal sharp stabbing discomfort, no pain when coughing. Any discomfort is stabbing type pain. Able to rotate upper body without discomfort.
Obviously wanting to avoid contact training but what type of training can I do without causing further injury.
Sprints?
Barbell Squat and One-Arm Press?
Burpees?

don't do anything.

go get it checked, it could just be brusied, or it could be fractured.

Worst injury i ever experienced was tearing the intercostal muscles away from my ribs, i literally couldn't move for a week.

I don't believe its fractured because I'm not experiencing any extreme pain just discomfort and a sharp twinge on rising or bending forward.

As a coach, i'd be asking you to get checked.

Like i said, probably nothing but be sure - it might just be bruising or cartilage popped or anything.

Up to you, but general rule of thumb for me and my players is if it hurts rest it....

You can always do aerobic stuff like cycling etc...

Definitely recommend going to get that checked out. The cardio may not physically cause any further damage but the cardiorespiratory effect could be damaging if there is any issue with your lungs or diaphragm from the injury
