TRF Olympics Debate

So, we're mere weeks away from the start of the games now, but this question hasn't died down in the years since the announcement and probably won't for a few years after as well.

So, here's the question to debate:

Is China fit to host the Olympic games?

Discuss.

Politically, economically or socially?

(Bare bones I'm afraid, for now. I can't think too hard at the moment!)

Economically, it will do them good, hopefully proving that they can compete with the Western World, if all goes well.

Politically, I don't think they should never have got it, but it's not far off the Berlin Games of 1936, and many countries have rotten human rights records, including the UK.

Socially, again I can't see the harm. If you bear in mind the general populace is not the same as the ruling elite then the economic and social benefits to the country may outway the controversies.

However, ruling elites are so-called for a reason and somewhere like China will gain the benefits I guess.
