After a 6 hour meeting in Dublin last night, every party wanted too much slice if the pie and nothing was agreed by anyone - the French and ******* English are still pulling out as things stand while the Celts and Italians making noise that "we don't need them".

Meetings are set to resume later this month.

Nobody is particularly surprised.

Hardly surprising. Good on the clubs, we have enough financial clout to face down the Celts, no point settling too early. Let them work up a bit of a sweat first.

If you hadn't noticed, Premier Rugby just arranged itself a £150m TV deal. What are you guys getting from the 6 or 7 TV networks who all show about 2 games a season each? We also get higher attendances than the Rabble 12 on average. Your lot need the Heineken Cup a lot more than we do.

Yes, in a Heineken Cup match. So you can forget about days like that should our clubs decide to pull out.

Still not as large a crowd as Sarries and Quins got at Wembley.
Are Sarries the team that have not got their own stadium? And constantly try to market themselves to the masses and play in an empty Twickenham..?

... and the majority of their players aren't british, and it's too far to walk or drive for fans from Cape Town to Twickenham...

Without getting into a cock swinging contes -

1. Club attendances are generally stable between domestic and European matches. It's only the Celts whom have f-all people interested outside the HEC.
2. The LV= Cup has way more "financial clout" then the HEC for the clubs, particularly as reward for success. When you consider a guaranteed 4-way split or a possible 6-way split. Even distribution wouldn't work though as the unions would kick up a fuss though as they couldn't skim their only decent income off the top before passing it down to their owned franchises.
3. 152million/4/12... Or 3.16million each per year (that's in pounds stirling, not European monopoly money). A lot more then present. Plus the opportunity to make their own incomes... I doubt they'll struggle too hard.

I do enjoy the irony that it's the same Englishmen who were crying 'throw your toys out of the pram' when the All Blacks said they wouldn't attend future RWCs if sponsorship wasn't sorted out (which affect every team which relies on sponsorship), are now getting quite vicious and self rightious over a similar issue.

Who be that then?

Also, why does New Zealand keep getting mentioned in these threads?

*awaits the old kiwi socialist to come shove his oar in*

1) How much of that lovely £150million deal will you have to pay back, when the English clubs awkwardly have to turn round and say 'yeah...we're not going to be in any European Competition, so you can;t show any European fixtures like we said you would...'?

2) I'm gonna assume you don't watch any Pro 12 rugby on any channels if you think that only a few games are shown every season. In Wales, BBC 2Wales shows a Welsh regions match on the friday night, S4C shows the Saturday and Sunday games (though so far I swear there's been no Sunday fixtures for Welsh teams), BBC Northern Ireland shows the Ulster matches, BBC ALBA generally shows at least 1 live, or replayed Scottish match and RTE has the Irish games.

And what are we getting from this you ask? F*ckin' free to air rugby bro! Better than having to sign up to Sky or BT Vision (which to all accounts is rather poo) and pay monthly to watch all the games you want.
In an ideal world all Rugby would be free to air, but its not an ideal world because everyones a money grabbing w*nker these days <_<

TV companies help finance pro rugby.

NZ and OZ are practically owned by SKY/Fox/Murdoch INC and professional rugby wouldn't exist there without it.

Exactly,in an ideal world we could have the best of free rugby and funding, unfortunately not.

At least y'all's rugby is aired. NBC has recently picked up the College Rugby Championship which is simply a 7's tourney over the summer, but that's about it. I have to stream everything else and our club teams aren't televised at all. Oh, I think Fox Sports Soccer shows some games every now and then, but you have to sign up for that and pay for any other channel that consistently shows the non-USA games. Obviously, American Football takes up all the damn broadcasting space.
