- Between 7 and 10 Los Teros players are going to be contracted and a total of 24 annual matches divided between Los Teros and the Uruguay XV will prevent there from being a shortage of rugby for the players.

- The URU desires for the High Performance Center at the Estadio Charrúa to become the training center for players.

- Argentine Esteban Meneses is the new Uruguay Head Coach, replacing Pablo Lemoine. He joins with vast experience. The former Head Coach of powerful Buenos Aires clubs CUBA and La Plata has a two year term. Lemoine instead moves upstairs to become the new Director of High Performance, where he will oversee all national programs, player identification, and take charge of the new High Performance Center at the Estadio Charrúa.

Nice and positive news from Uruguay. Any chance that a Uruguayan franchise/club join a more powerful Argentine championship?

Yes, it's a fact.
The strong Argentine-Uruguayan rugby alliance is set to become even stronger. In addition to Uruguay being a part of the new Americas Rugby Championship and the Uruguay XV playing in the Argentine Provincial Championship (from Argentines Unions), traditional clubs Old Christians and Old Boys are to play in the Torneo del Interior B (second division from Argentines Clubs tournament).

Their dream is to have a Super Rugby franchise someday in the future.

Fantastic to hear that Uruguay are making major steps to make their game better. Had a great world cup, as well Romania, Japan and even Namibia, so it's great to build on that success.

From what I read it is all possible and logical long term methods of closing the gap on the Tier 1. Great to read that they are latching onto their Tier 1 neighbours, Argentina, for guidance and development - even better to read that Argentina are embracing these developments and leading the continent for development, unlike the 6 Nations in Europe. For example they don't need to play in the Americas Rugby Championship.

However, I thought Uruguay were already a Tier 2 nation?

It's more Tier 3. But I am very happy to hear that, it was always a pleasure to watch them in Bucharest at Nations Cup few times. They left a good impression here, a hearty team. I am following Uruguayan rugby and thanks for opening this thread.

A complete calendar of rugby matches for Uruguay at all levels has been released by the URU. The Year 2016 for Uruguay Rugby will be groundbreaking with more rugby than ever before for Los Teros while the Uruguay XV, Los Teros 7s, Uruguay under 20s and the national club competitions are also all big winners.

Los Teros
The five internationals in the Americas Rugby Championship (Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and USA) will be followed by two matches in the CONSUR Cup in May (Chile and Argentina), three matches in the World Rugby Nations Cup in June (Romania, Namibia and one more) and three end of year away tests in Europe at yet to be determined locations.

Uruguay XV
Uruguay's 'A' side, the Uruguay XV will play against Brazil and Paraguay during the final two weekends of April and will compete in Argentina's National Provincial Championship, the Torneo Argentino de Uniones from October – December. There will be opportunity for those who perform well to play for Los Teros in the weeks following the South American Championship and the start of the Torneo Argentino de Uniones.

Clubs
Uruguayan clubs Old Christians and Old Boys, beginning in March will dispute the Torneo Argentino de Clubes. Shortly thereafter they will compete in the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División while the Campeonato Uruguayo will be played from July-September, with the final being played in early October.

Upcoming international competition for teams from Uruguay and Argentina have seen a collaborated effort this week. Los Teros have been in Training with Los Jaguares in a mutually beneficial arrangement before the upcoming Americas Rugby Championship and Super Rugby competitions.

@argie, do you know if the UAR has confirmed that Uruguayan teams are allowed to ascend to the Torneo del Interior A?

Yes Coco. The Champion will win promotion to the Torneo del Interior A (second division).
As you know, the first division of argentinian rugby is the ICBC Nacional de Clubes.

Uruguay will host in October the inaugural new Americas-Pacific Challenge competition, to be financed by World Rugby, with the "A" sides from Argentina, USA, Canada, Fiji, Samoa and Uruguay.
This tournament will replace the former Americas Rugby Championship (a four nations competition of the "A" sides of Argentina, USA, Canada and Uruguay), and will be played from October 7 to 16 in Montevideo, in a six teams format, all teams playing three mathes in ten days.
