Heard on the Grapevine that World Championship Rugby 2 will be out around October this year and will go under the name "RUGBY CHALLENGE 2006"

You heard it here first

Time to hope again.

After all that play on R2005 I decided that it was not up to standard regarding exciting gameplay like JLR. JLR is STILL the game that gives the user the most sense of feel and control. After a while on R2005 I found that it got monotonous both computer and multiplayer. Hard to do something radically different.

Good to see you back locksley, haven't seen you much on MSN.

Thanks for the news.

Name seems kinda weird, but just sitting here I can't come up with a better one so ah well.

Go Rugby Challenge 2006. Kick EA's ass...........yeah (actually anybody please kick EA's ass.

That name's worse than WCR2 in my opinion. "Rugby Challenge" Sounds very arcadey, Then, I guess that's what Swordfish are going for (I wish they wouldn't though).

Hopefully the game will greatly surpass the name.

Who cares what its called. Just give us a games with the requirements we aked for.

using the actual brand names of the tournaments, such as Heineken Cup and Zurich Prem (altohugh it'll be Guinness Prm soon) suggests that these tournaments will actually be licensed.

I like the look of it, more so than Rugby 2005 which was too like fifa for me.
I don't know... apart from all the EA crap everywhere, Rugby 05 had an authentic look to it I thought... WCR and now this, both look way too tooney for me.

Yeah, but an Authentic look can only take it so far... Rugby 2005 still had crap gameplay, same as r2004 IMO. If RC2 can build a lot from WCR i think i will like it better.

found this on the frontpage of www.gameplanet.co.nz

Hip Interactive has announced the forthcoming release of Rugby Challenge 2006 from the much acclaimed developers of World Championship Rugby and Jonah Lomu Rugby.
Hip Interactive says Rugby Challenge 2006, to be released on PS2, Xbox and PC, promises to deliver the action with slick presentation, together with unsurpassed hard hitting encounters that avid rugby fans richly deserve and expect. Developed by Swordfish Studios, which was recently named Developer of the Year at the second annual TIGA awards, Rugby Challenge 2006 will feature:

New competitions - featuring both international and domestic clubs, including Heineken Cup, 6 Nations Tournaments, Zurich Premiership, Celtic League, French National League (Top 16), etc.
Players/Teams - all the licensed players and teams are researched before they are entered into the game.
career mode - enables players to manage, wheel and deal and play your way to the top.
Training & Tutorial modes - number of levels including sub games to achieve personal bests.
Weather Conditions - choices to play a game in dry or wet conditions, and either during daytime or in the evening.
Stadia - There is a mixture of both real-life stadiums (such as Murrayfield, Lansdowne Road, Twickenham, Millennium Stadium, etc.) and fictional stadiums.
Additional features will be announced at E3 next week.
Utilising a mixture of motion captured and hand animation, along with "cutting edge" AI for sophisticated tactical manipulation, Hip says Rugby Challenge 2006 will delight gamers with its immersive gameplay and easy to understand manipulation.

Hip Interactive says Rugby Challenge 2006 is for European release only, indicating another naming endorsement project could be in the works for other territories, or at the very least that the game will not be sold in the USA.

Huge lack of Southern Hemisphere tournaments mentioned there, I hope that is because it won't be licensed (NZRU has an exclusive licence with EA don't they), but they will be there.

I'll have to go with sanzar on this one, those screenshots Look rather poor, too similar to the first game I think. Sounds like there will again be a lack of licences for the southern hemishphere which is a bit disappointing, but in all honesty, was expected.

Oh well, we can still hope...

Well, at least you can tell one thing from the screenshots, they'll have proper length matches (I'm pretty sure WCR didn't, right?).

same cartoon look to it but i hope its better than b4!

well i think the NH deserve this game cos ea had SH licensing......aww well!

........all we need is one rugby game for the world.....one rugby game to rule them all!

How can you tell that?

In the first game it always counted up to 80mins
